Applications are Now Open for the UNESCO SDG4 Youth & Student Network 2026–2027

Admin, June 4, 2025June 4, 2025

Application Deadline: July 10, 2025

UNESCO is currently accepting applications for the 2026–2027 cohort of the SDG4 Youth & Student Network, a global platform for youth-led advocacy in support of Sustainable Development Goal 4 (SDG4): Quality Education for All. This initiative offers passionate young education advocates the opportunity to contribute meaningfully to the global education agenda.

Overview of the SDG4 Youth & Student Network

The SDG4 Youth & Student Network is a UNESCO-led initiative that brings together youth leaders, students, and advocates committed to educational transformation. It serves as the official youth and student voice on the SDG4 High-Level Steering Committee, which includes Ministers of Education, civil society organizations, donors, international agencies, and the private sector.

Members of the Network serve in their personal capacity from January 2026 to December 2027, with preparatory activities starting in October 2025.

Membership Role and Responsibilities

Selected members will participate in:

  • Thematic working groups focused on areas such as inclusive education, digital learning, AI in education, and emergency education
  • Development of policy briefs, advocacy campaigns, and contributions to international education events and webinars
  • Monthly consultations and working group meetings
  • Representation in the SDG4 High-Level Steering Committee
  • Election of and collaboration with regional representatives to form the Executive Committee

Although this is a voluntary and unpaid role, members gain global exposure, develop essential advocacy and leadership skills, and participate in influential education policy discussions. Membership does not establish an employment relationship with UNESCO and does not authorize the use of its name or logo for personal purposes.

Eligibility Requirements

Applicants must meet the following criteria:

  • Aged 16 to 30 years
  • Active in a non-profit youth or student-led organization at the national, regional, or global level focused on Education 2030 or related SDG4 goals
  • Demonstrated commitment to education advocacy and grassroots engagement
  • No conflicting interests, including roles in government or for-profit organizations that could present a conflict

Current and former members may reapply, but returning members will be limited to no more than 10% of the new cohort.

Application Details

  • Application Deadline: 10 July 2025, midnight (Paris time)
  • Applicants should first review the facsimile application form to prepare their responses before completing the official form on the UNESCO website.

The application requires a detailed description of current roles in advocacy work, previous contributions to educational causes, and motivation to join the Network.

Selection Criteria and Timeline

The selection process will run from July to September 2025, with final results released in September 2025. Applications will be evaluated by a selection committee comprising UNESCO staff and current Executive Committee members. At least one youth-focused United Nations agency will oversee the process for transparency.

Candidates will be assessed on the basis of:

  • Experience and expertise in education and sustainable development
  • Demonstrated leadership and community engagement
  • Capacity to commit time and energy to Network activities
  • Diversity in terms of geography, gender, and sectors

The 2026–2027 cohort will include 60 to 100 members globally.

Key Notes

  • No fees are required at any stage of the application
  • Membership is completely free
  • Applicants must read the Terms of Reference and Code of Conduct prior to submission
  • For additional inquiries, contact: sdg4youth@unesco.org
