The Summer Fellowship 2026 (Research Track) by GovAI is now accepting applications from outstanding individuals passionate about shaping the future of artificial intelligence governance and public policy. This three-month, fully funded fellowship offers an unparalleled opportunity to conduct independent research while engaging directly with world-leading experts, policymakers, and researchers who are defining the global conversation on AI governance.

About the GovAI Summer Fellowship 2026

Hosted by the Centre for the Governance of AI (GovAI), the Summer Fellowship aims to develop a new generation of thinkers, researchers, and policymakers working to ensure that artificial intelligence benefits humanity responsibly and safely.

The Research Track is specifically designed for individuals who want to explore AI governance through in-depth research and policy analysis. Each fellow undertakes an independent research project, guided by mentors from GovAI’s global network of experts. Participants also benefit from a supportive, collaborative environment that encourages innovation, ethical reflection, and interdisciplinary learning.

What Fellows Will Gain

Throughout the program, participants immerse themselves in a vibrant learning experience that includes seminars, workshops, and professional development sessions led by AI governance experts. Fellows:

  • Build a strong foundation in AI policy, governance, and global risk management.
  • Engage with experts through focused seminars and interactive sessions.
  • Collaborate with an international cohort of researchers, policymakers, and innovators.
  • Produce impactful research outputs, such as policy reports, white papers, academic articles, or thought leadership pieces.

The program’s flexible structure allows fellows to tailor their projects to their personal goals and professional interests—whether they aspire to influence global policy, drive academic research, or shape corporate AI ethics frameworks.

Fellowship Duration, Location, and Support

  • Duration: 8 June – 28 August 2026 (3 months)
  • Location: London, United Kingdom
  • Format: Full-time, in-person

Selected fellows receive comprehensive support, including:

  • A stipend of £12,000 for the full duration of the program
  • Travel assistance to London
  • Weekday lunches and workspace access at GovAI’s London office
  • Visa sponsorship for eligible international participants

This package ensures fellows can focus fully on their research without financial barriers.

Eligibility and Ideal Candidates
