About the Global Schools Advocates Program

The Global Schools Advocates Program is part of the Global Schools initiative, which supports educators in bringing Education for Sustainable Development (ESD) into classrooms, school activities, and wider school communities.

Rather than requiring teachers to adopt a rigid curriculum, the program gives participants resources and approaches they can adapt to their local context. This makes the initiative relevant to educators working in schools with different cultures, resources, and educational priorities.

The program has been informed by contributions from more than 220 sustainable development experts and 40+ educators. Selected participants become Global Schools Advocates and work as local champions for sustainable development education.

What Advocates Are Expected to Do

Participants will:

• Complete approximately 10–15 hours of online training.
• Learn practical approaches to integrating the SDGs and ESD into teaching.
• Introduce sustainable development concepts to students and fellow educators.
• Use lesson plans, activities, and the Advocate Toolkit in their schools.
• Encourage colleagues and school leaders to participate.
• Share experiences and lessons learned with the wider Global Schools community.

The overall commitment is approximately 5–10 hours per week, depending on the participant’s activities and level of engagement.

Who Can Apply?

The Global Schools Advocates Program is open to educators who meet the following requirements:

• Strong enough English skills to complete the training and participate in the international network.
• Ability to dedicate at least 5 hours per week.
