Apply Now for the AIDS 2026 Conference Scholarship: Empowering Global Change in HIV Research and Advocacy

Admin, December 1, 2025December 1, 2025

Submission Deadline: 27 January 2026

The International AIDS Society (IAS) has officially opened scholarship applications for AIDS 2026, the 26th International AIDS Conference, taking place in Brazil from 26–31 July 2026. This global event brings together researchers, advocates, and community leaders united in advancing the fight against HIV.

The AIDS 2026 Scholarship Programme provides critical financial support to individuals working, studying, or volunteering in the field of HIV. The initiative aims to make the conference accessible to diverse voices, especially from low- and middle-income countries, and to empower young professionals and key populations to contribute to global HIV discussions and solutions.

Important Dates and Deadlines

  • Submissions Open: 20 November 2025
  • Submission Deadline: 27 January 2026 (23:59 CET)
  • Notification of Results: Early April 2026

Late submissions will not be accepted, so applicants are encouraged to complete their applications well ahead of the deadline.

Types of Financial Support Available

The IAS will award both in-person and virtual scholarships for AIDS 2026. Applicants can choose their preferred attendance mode and indicate the financial support they require.

1. In-Person Scholarship Support

Successful applicants attending in person will receive comprehensive assistance, including:

  • Full conference registration (in-person + virtual access)
  • Access to all sessions, exhibitions, workshops, and the Global Village
  • Prepaid round-trip economy airfare from the nearest international airport
  • Hotel accommodation (single room in a budget hotel for the duration of the conference)
  • Daily living allowance to cover meals and local transportation

2. Virtual Scholarship Support

Recipients who participate virtually will receive:

  • Online access to live-streamed and recorded conference sessions, workshops, and pre-conference events
  • Access to e-posters, the virtual Global Village, and other digital resources

All scholarship recipients, whether in-person or virtual, will also receive free IAS membership for two years following the conference — an incredible opportunity to stay connected and continue contributing to the global HIV community.

Who Can Apply for the AIDS 2026 Scholarship

The scholarship is open to anyone aged 18 or older by 26 July 2026, who is actively involved in the HIV field as a researcher, advocate, community leader, healthcare provider, student, or volunteer.

Priority will be given to:

  • Abstract presenters, workshop facilitators, and Global Village organizers selected for the conference
  • Applicants from low- and middle-income countries
  • Members of key populations and people living with HIV
  • Young professionals and early-career researchers under the age of 35
  • Applicants who have not previously received a scholarship for an International AIDS Conference

This inclusive approach ensures representation from the communities most affected by HIV and those driving innovation and advocacy across regions.

Selection Process and Timeline

  • November 2025: Applications open
  • January 2026: Submissions close
  • February–March 2026: Review and selection process
  • April 2026: Announcement of results

The review process will focus on applicant contributions to HIV response efforts, leadership potential, and demonstrated commitment to advancing equity in global health.
