Apply Now: Dwell Here 2026 – Fully Funded One-Year Residency at the Irish Museum of Modern Art

Admin, July 12, 2025

Application Deadline: July 22, 2025

The Irish Museum of Modern Art (IMMA) is now accepting applications for its prestigious Dwell Here: One-Year Residencies Programme 2026. This opportunity is open to artists, designers, architects, curators, and humanities researchers from Ireland and across the globe. If you’re looking for an immersive, fully funded residency to deepen your artistic research and engage with an international creative community, this is for you.

About the Dwell Here Residency

Dwell Here is a one-year, site-responsive residency based at IMMA in Dublin, Ireland. It supports independent research across visual arts, design, architecture, curation, and related disciplines. Residents will explore contemporary themes while developing process-based work that engages with the museum’s environment and wider community.

The residency is structured around seasonal Research Assemblies, which are collaborative, week-long gatherings where participants share work, hold discussions, and explore interdisciplinary ideas with mentors, peers, and the public. Through these assemblies, the program fosters collective learning, informal knowledge exchange, and creative experimentation.

Key Themes for 2026:

  1. Technologies of Peace – Investigating commemorative landscapes and the value of peace as an active pursuit.
  2. The Irish Paradigm – Exploring peripheral cultural dynamics and the power of creative intimacy in a small island nation.
  3. The Museum as a Site of Vibration – Reimagining how museums engage with erased or marginalized histories, sustainability, and hospitality in post-colonial contexts.

Benefits of the Residency

Selected residents will receive comprehensive support to make the most of their time at IMMA:

  • Free onsite accommodation (separate from the studio space)
  • Access to a studio space at the museum (if required)
  • Monthly bursary of €1,000 for agreed-upon months
  • One return flight for international residents
  • Covered material and programming costs associated with Research Assemblies
  • Utilities and amenities, including electricity, heating, Wi-Fi, and parking

The residency also offers family-friendly accommodation for selected candidates with partners or small families, though this must be discussed in advance.

Engagement Expectations

Residents are expected to participate actively in the Research Assemblies and contribute to public-facing activities such as:

  • Open studios or exhibitions
  • Reading groups or talks
  • Walking tours or performances
  • Community-focused workshops or presentations

In addition, participants will benefit from mentorship, studio visits, access to IMMA’s collections and archives, and connection to Ireland’s vibrant arts infrastructure.

Eligibility Criteria

  • Open to artists, researchers, and cultural practitioners from Ireland and internationally
  • Applicants must demonstrate a strong commitment to research and critical engagement in their field

Important Dates:

  • Application Deadline: July 22, 2025
  • Residency Duration: One year (2026)
