Applications Now Open for the 2025 Cohort of African Economic Scholars Program (AESP)

Admin, March 10, 2025March 10, 2025

Application deadline: April 11, 2025

Are you a final-year undergraduate or recent graduate from Nigeria, Ghana, Kenya, or South Africa with a passion for economic policy and governance? Do you have an academic background in Economics, Political Science, International Relations, or a related discipline?

The African Economic Scholars Program (AESP) is a transformative opportunity designed to equip future leaders with the necessary skills to influence public policy, governance, and economic development. If you are committed to making a lasting impact in Africaโ€™s policy space, this program is for you.

About the African Economic Scholars Program

The AESP is a highly selective initiative dedicated to nurturing Africaโ€™s next generation of economic and policy leaders. It offers scholars comprehensive training in research, policymaking, and professional development, ensuring they acquire the expertise required to drive meaningful change in governance and economic policy.

Through a blend of academic rigor, mentorship, and hands-on experience, the program provides scholars with a solid foundation in economic governance and advocacy. Graduates of the program go on to work in government agencies, think tanks, international organizations, and private sector institutions that shape Africaโ€™s policy landscape.

What Scholars Gain from the Program

Participants selected for the AESP will benefit from the following:

  • Intensive Two-Month Training
Scholars will take part in a specialized curriculum covering research methodologies, policymaking, governance strategies, and professional development. The training is designed to sharpen analytical skills and deepen understanding of economic governance.
  • Capstone Project with Publication Opportunity
Each scholar will undertake a research-based capstone project, applying theoretical knowledge to real-world policy issues. Outstanding projects may be published, enhancing scholarsโ€™ professional and academic profiles.
  • Exclusive Internship Placements
High-achieving scholars will be offered internship placements with leading think tanks, government institutions, and policy organizations. These internships provide hands-on experience in policy research, economic analysis, and advocacy.
  • Expert Mentorship
Scholars will receive guidance and career coaching from experienced policymakers, industry leaders, and researchers. Mentorship will help scholars navigate the complexities of policymaking and career growth in economic governance.
  • Professional Networking
The program fosters valuable connections between scholars and like-minded peers, industry experts, and key stakeholders in Africaโ€™s policy space. These connections open doors to future opportunities in governance, research, and development.
