Admin, June 16, 2026June 16, 2026

Application Deadline: June 25, 2026

Young people are at the heart of social transformation across Africa. From improving access to education to advocating for vulnerable communities, youth-led initiatives continue to drive meaningful change in cities, towns, and rural communities alike.

If you are passionate about making a difference and want to strengthen your leadership and advocacy skills, the SARAFACDi Advocacy Fellowship 2026 offers an exciting opportunity to learn, grow, and create real impact.

Organized by the Slum and Rural Aid for African Child Development Initiative (SARAFACDi), this fully funded fellowship is designed to equip young leaders with practical knowledge in advocacy, communication, community mobilization, and project implementation. Over three months, selected fellows will participate in expert-led training sessions and implement community-focused advocacy initiatives that address local challenges.

For aspiring advocates, social entrepreneurs, community volunteers, youth leaders, and development practitioners, this fellowship provides a valuable platform to turn ideas into action.

About the SARAFACDi Advocacy Fellowship 2026

The SARAFACDi Advocacy Fellowship is a fully funded leadership and advocacy development program aimed at empowering young Africans who are committed to driving positive social change.

The fellowship focuses on building the next generation of community advocates by providing participants with practical tools, knowledge, and mentorship needed to identify social issues, engage stakeholders, and implement impactful solutions.

In many African communities, challenges such as limited educational opportunities, youth unemployment, social exclusion, and inadequate access to essential services continue to affect vulnerable populations. Effective advocacy plays a critical role in addressing these issues by influencing policies, raising awareness, and mobilizing communities toward collective action.

Through this fellowship, participants will learn how to move beyond identifying problems and begin creating sustainable solutions that generate measurable impact.

The program is delivered online, making it accessible to participants from different locations without requiring travel or relocation.

Program Structure and Timeline

The fellowship runs for three months, beginning on 27 June 2026, with virtual sessions held every Saturday.

Training Modules

Week 1: Understanding Advocacy and Social Change

Participants will explore the fundamentals of advocacy and gain insights into how social change initiatives influence communities and institutions.

Week 2: Identifying Community Problems

Fellows will learn how to assess community needs, identify root causes of challenges, and prioritize issues that require intervention.

Week 3: Advocacy Campaign Design

This session focuses on developing effective advocacy campaigns that can engage communities and inspire action.

Week 4: Communication and Public Speaking

Participants will strengthen their communication skills, learn persuasive storytelling techniques, and build confidence in public speaking.

Week 5: Community Engagement and Stakeholder Mobilization

Fellows will discover strategies for building partnerships, engaging stakeholders, and mobilizing community support for their initiatives.

Week 6: Monitoring, Evaluation, and Impact Reporting

Participants will learn how to measure project outcomes, document achievements, and communicate impact effectively.

Community Action Phase

Following the six-week training period, fellows will design and implement their own community advocacy projects.

Participants will then submit impact reports showcasing the results of their initiatives and the lessons learned throughout the fellowship experience.

Who Can Apply?

Applicants must:

  • Be between 18 and 30 years old
  • Demonstrate strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Show a genuine interest in education, community development, advocacy, and social impact
  • Be willing to participate actively throughout the three-month program
  • Commit to attending virtual training sessions and implementing a community advocacy project

Importantly, applicants do not need to have extensive professional experience to apply.

SARAFACDi encourages motivated young people with a passion for learning and community service to submit applications, even if they do not meet every preferred qualification.

Why This Fellowship Matters

Many young people have the desire to improve their communities but often lack access to structured training, mentorship, and opportunities to put their ideas into practice.

The SARAFACDi Advocacy Fellowship bridges this gap by combining learning with action.

Rather than focusing only on theory, the fellowship challenges participants to identify a real issue in their community and develop practical solutions. This experiential approach helps fellows build confidence, leadership capacity, and project management skills that remain valuable long after the program ends.

For young Africans seeking to build careers in nonprofit management, education, advocacy, policy, social entrepreneurship, or community development, this fellowship can serve as a powerful stepping stone.

Interested candidates should complete the official application form before the deadline.

2. Highlight Previous Involvement

Even small volunteer experiences, school projects, youth initiatives, or community activities can demonstrate commitment and leadership potential.

3. Show Understanding of Community Challenges

Discuss a specific issue affecting your community and explain how you would like to contribute to solving it.

4. Focus on Impact

Selection committees often look for applicants who are action-oriented. Share examples of how you have supported others or initiated positive change.
