Applications are Now Open for the Africa Business Club Entrepreneurship Competition 2025

Admin, November 14, 2025November 14, 2025

Application Deadline: November 20, 2025

The Africa Business Club at Kelley School of Business has opened applications for its 2025 Entrepreneurship Competition—an exciting platform designed to spotlight the next generation of African innovators. This annual initiative supports entrepreneurs who are building impactful, scalable ventures on the African continent. Through a structured pitch competition, participants receive visibility, mentorship, and the chance to compete for top cash prizes to grow their businesses.

Application opens on October 22, 2025, and closes on November 20, 2025, at 11:59 PM EST. Finalists will be announced on November 24, 2025, and will submit their final slides by December 1, 2025. The competition will conclude with the final pitch presentations on December 4, 2025.

This competition provides a rare opportunity for emerging founders to showcase their ideas to an esteemed panel of judges, refine their business strategy, and gain recognition within the global entrepreneurship community.

Eligibility Criteria

To maintain fairness and highlight authentic innovation, the competition outlines clear eligibility requirements for all teams:

  • Original Work: All business pitches must represent the original work of the team members. Participants retain full ownership of their ideas and must ensure all information presented is authentic. No fabricated details regarding product development, experience, or market data are permitted.
  • African-Led Ventures: The competition welcomes entrepreneurs based in Africa. At least one core team member must live in Africa, but mixed teams with contributors outside the continent are welcome.
  • Founder Ownership: Applicants must be founders who have been actively involved in creating, managing, and currently owning a significant stake in their venture.
  • Startup Stage: Qualified ventures must have been operating for at least one year but not more than five at the time of application.
  • Professional Conduct: As an initiative aimed at empowering new and rising African entrepreneurs, all participants are expected to engage professionally. The organizers reserve the right to disqualify any team that fails to uphold respectful conduct.

Pitch Guidelines

Business pitches must be submitted in a clear and structured format to ensure the judges understand the idea, business model, and market potential. Submissions are limited to 7 pages of text in 12-point font, excluding the cover page and up to five pages of optional exhibits.

The evaluation focuses on three core areas:

  • Uniqueness of the business idea
  • Clarity and coherence
  • Overall viability and potential for growth

Participants are encouraged to use the appendix to elaborate on key business aspects without adding unnecessary filler content. Exhibits may be included to further clarify the concept, although they will not be scored.

The organizers provide support for first-time founders and remain accessible for guidance throughout the application process.

Guidelines for Finalists

Shortlisted teams must submit a one-page executive summary that highlights essential business information. Judges will review this ahead of the final pitch to understand each venture’s direction.

The final pitch presentation format is flexible, allowing entrepreneurs to creatively communicate their ideas. Each team will be given 10 minutes to present, followed by a 5-minute Q&A session. Only one member is permitted to answer questions on stage.

Winners will receive cash prizes to support their business growth:

  • 1st Place: $2,500
  • 2nd Place: $1,500
  • 3rd Place: $1,000
