Africa Reproductive Justice Litigation Fund 2026–2027: Up to $50,000 in Funding for Legal Advocacy and Policy Reform

Admin, December 7, 2025December 8, 2025

Application Deadline: December 12, 2025

Afya Haki has announced a powerful new opportunity for organizations and advocates advancing reproductive justice across Africa. The Africa Reproductive Justice Litigation Fund 2026–2027 is now open for applications, offering up to $50,000 in funding to support litigation, legal advocacy, and policy reform initiatives that protect and strengthen reproductive rights on the continent.

This fund is designed to empower communities, promote bodily autonomy, and drive impactful change through strategic legal action. It aims to ensure that sexual and reproductive health and rights (SRHR) are upheld, defended, and integrated into justice systems and governance structures throughout Africa.

Advancing Bodily Autonomy and Reproductive Rights

The Africa Reproductive Justice Litigation Fund underscores Afya Haki’s ongoing commitment to advancing gender equality, human rights, and reproductive freedom. By supporting litigation and advocacy efforts, the initiative seeks to create a robust legal foundation for reproductive justice across the continent.

Reproductive justice is not only about access to healthcare but also about empowering individuals and communities to make decisions about their bodies and futures without coercion, discrimination, or violence. Through this fund, Afya Haki enables advocates to challenge unjust laws, policies, and practices that restrict access to reproductive health services and undermine human dignity.

Focus Areas of the Fund

The fund will support projects and initiatives that promote:

  • Strategic litigation advancing reproductive rights and justice.
  • Legal advocacy that holds governments and institutions accountable for SRHR commitments.
  • Policy reform that aligns national frameworks with international human rights standards.
  • Community-driven initiatives that enhance access to justice and amplify marginalized voices.

By focusing on these key areas, the Africa Reproductive Justice Litigation Fund aims to catalyze systemic change and strengthen accountability mechanisms that protect reproductive rights for all.

Eligibility and Support

Eligible applicants include civil society organizations, legal advocacy groups, women’s rights networks, and reproductive justice coalitions working within African countries. Priority will be given to organizations with a demonstrated track record in advancing SRHR, feminist legal advocacy, or policy reform.

Selected grantees will receive financial support of up to $50,000 USD to implement innovative legal or policy initiatives over the 2026–2027 grant cycle. In addition to funding, successful applicants will gain access to Afya Haki’s extensive network of legal experts, human rights advocates, and technical resources to strengthen their organizational capacity and impact.

Driving Sustainable Impact Through Justice

The Africa Reproductive Justice Litigation Fund is a critical investment in the future of reproductive rights and gender equality on the continent. It recognizes that legal advocacy is a powerful tool for dismantling barriers to reproductive justice and ensuring that every individual—especially women and marginalized groups—can exercise their rights fully and freely.

Through this initiative, Afya Haki envisions an Africa where reproductive health, rights, and justice are recognized as fundamental human rights—protected by law and accessible to all.

Application Details

Interested organizations are encouraged to review the full call for proposals and submit their applications through Afya Haki’s official platform. The fund welcomes innovative, intersectional approaches that combine law, policy, and community engagement to achieve lasting impact.
