Admin, July 11, 2025July 11, 2025

Application Deadline:Ongoing

The Africa Policy Research Institute (APRI) is accepting applications for its 2025 Young Talent Program, a recurring professional development initiative aimed at nurturing the next generation of African policy thinkers. This program welcomes recent graduates and early-career professionals who are passionate about shaping Africa’s future through research, policy analysis, and advocacy.

Whether you’re looking to gain hands-on experience in a globally oriented think tank or want to sharpen your analytical skills while contributing to impactful research, APRI’s Young Talent Program provides a dynamic environment to learn, collaborate, and grow.

About the APRI Young Talent Program

The Young Talent Program offers participants a structured entry point into the world of policy research. It’s tailored for individuals eager to work on pressing African policy challenges across key thematic areas, including geopolitics, geoeconomics, sustainability, and green transitions.

Participants will engage in real-world projects, support ongoing research, and contribute fresh ideas to APRI’s diverse program portfolio. This internship-style experience promotes intellectual growth, critical thinking, and exposure to the inner workings of a leading African policy institute.

Who Should Apply

The program is open to:

  • Young professionals and recent graduates, particularly those with a strong interest in policy research and African development.
  • Applicants based in Europe must be enrolled in a university program to meet internship requirements under local regulations (e.g., Pflichtpraktikum in Germany).
  • Applicants in Africa and other global regions are welcome, even if not currently enrolled in school, as long as they’ve recently graduated or are between academic programs.

Eligibility Requirements

Ideal candidates should meet the following criteria:

  • Ability to work in GMT+1 (Nigeria) or GMT+2 (Germany) time zones.
  • Demonstrated research and analytical skills; proficiency in data analysis and data visualization is a plus.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills in English. Fluency in other languages is advantageous.
  • Must be self-motivated, organized, dependable, and proactive.
  • Ability to work effectively within a multicultural and collaborative team environment.

Preferred Qualifications

  • A completed graduate degree in a relevant field such as international relations, economics, political science, environmental policy, or development studies.
  • Experience or deep interest in policy research.
  • Availability to work from APRI’s Berlin or Abuja office is a significant advantage, as it enhances team collaboration and learning.

Program Areas

Applicants will be considered for roles aligned with the following thematic areas:

  • Geopolitics & Geoeconomics
  • Just Green Transition & Technology

Applicants must indicate their preferred program area in the “Remarks” section of the application.

Selection Process

Candidates will undergo a three-stage selection process:

  1. Initial Screening: APRI reviews submitted documents and qualifications.
  2. Short Video Check-in: A 10-minute meeting with HR to confirm interest and availability.
  3. Interview: A more in-depth conversation with a Team Lead or Program Head.

Successful candidates will receive an internship offer based on available roles and thematic fit. Those not selected immediately may be placed on a reserve list for future opportunities.

How to Apply

Applicants should compile the following documents into one PDF file:

  • A CV (maximum 2 pages)
  • A brief statement of interest
  • Preferred start and end dates (and general availability)
  • Program area preference (Geopolitics & Geoeconomics or Just Green Transition & Technology)

Why Apply?

This is a unique chance to join a growing African-led think tank and contribute to high-impact research. Whether you’re looking to launch your career or expand your policy experience, APRI provides a rich learning environment with mentorship, exposure, and meaningful work.
