Swedish Institute Scholarship 2027: Fully Funded Master’s in Sweden

Admin, October 26, 2026October 26, 2026

Application Deadline: 24 February 2027

Applications are now open for the Swedish Institute Scholarship for Global Professionals (SISGP) 2027-2028, a Swedish government-funded scholarship for international professionals who want to study for a Master’s degree in Sweden.

The scholarship covers full tuition, a monthly living allowance of SEK 12,000 and a one-time travel grant. Your first deadline is January 15, 2027, when your university application is due.

For professionals in Nigeria, Kenya, Uganda, Rwanda and other eligible African countries, this is one of the strongest fully funded routes to a European Master’s degree. Because it needs two separate applications, early planning matters.

About the Swedish Institute Scholarship

The scholarship is funded by the Swedish Ministry for Foreign Affairs and run by the Swedish Institute (SI). It supports talented people who can contribute to sustainable development and positive change in their home countries.

It is aimed at professionals, not just recent graduates. SI looks for work and leadership experience, and for applicants who plan to apply their learning at home.

Study Fields

The scholarship supports Master’s programmes in:

  • Governance and public policy
  • Public health
  • Entrepreneurship and innovation
  • Science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM)
  • Environmental and sustainable development-related fields

Programmes last one to two years and must be full-time at an eligible Swedish university.

Benefits of the Scholarship

  • Full tuition fees: SI pays the university directly.
  • Monthly living allowance: SEK 12,000 for the scholarship period.
  • Travel grant: A one-time grant of SEK 15,000 for most scholars. Applicants from Armenia, Azerbaijan, Belarus, Georgia, Moldova and Ukraine receive SEK 10,000.
  • SI Network for Global Professionals: Join during your studies.
  • Sweden Alumni Network: Stay connected after you finish.

Eligibility Requirements

To qualify, you must:

  • Be a citizen of an eligible country
  • Apply for an eligible full-time Master’s programme in Sweden
  • Be liable to pay tuition fees under the Swedish admission system
  • Meet the academic and English-language requirements of your programme
  • Show relevant work experience and leadership experience
  • Meet SI’s rules on previous studies and residence in Sweden

Eligible African Countries

The published list covers 34 countries. The African countries on it are Egypt, Ethiopia, Kenya, Liberia, Morocco, Nigeria, Rwanda, Senegal, South Africa, Tanzania, Uganda and Zambia. The list also includes countries in Asia, Latin America and Eastern Europe. Check SI’s official page to confirm the current list.

Application Process and Key Dates

You must make two applications. The university admission comes first.

  1. Find an eligible Master’s programme on the Swedish Institute website.
  2. Apply through UniversityAdmissions.se. Choose up to four eligible programmes.
  3. Upload your university documents. Include transcripts, English-language proof and other materials, and pay any fee.
  4. Prepare your scholarship documents. Use SI’s templates for your CV, references and motivation answers.
  5. Submit the SI scholarship application. Enter your University Admissions number exactly.
  6. Wait for results. You must also win admission to receive the scholarship.

Required documents: passport or ID, CV in SI’s template, transcripts and certificates, English proof where needed, work-experience and leadership documents, two references, motivation responses and your admissions number.

Key dates:

  • October 16, 2026: Master’s applications open
  • January 15, 2027: Master’s application deadline
  • February 1, 2027: Supporting documents and fee deadline for admission

Why You Should Apply: Tips for a Strong Application

  1. Start the university application now. The January 15 deadline comes first, and the scholarship depends on it.
  2. Choose programmes carefully. You may pick up to four, so check each is on SI’s eligible list.
  3. Document your leadership. Collect letters or records that prove what you led and achieved.
  4. Get official work proof. Request employer letters early, as they can take time.
  5. Link your plan to home. Explain how your degree will support development in your country.
  6. Use SI’s templates exactly. Wrong formats can cost you points.
  7. Check your English test needs. Arrange tests early if your programme requires them.

Conclusion

The Swedish Institute Scholarship offers full funding, a living allowance and a respected network to professionals who want to create change at home. With the university deadline on January 15, 2027, now is the time to choose your programmes.
