Land degradation is one of the most pressing environmental challenges of our time, threatening ecosystems, economies, and livelihoods worldwide. Addressing this crisis requires not only scientific and policy-driven solutions but also effective communication strategies that mobilize public awareness and action. Recognizing the power of storytelling and media in shaping global environmental discourse, the G20 Global Land Initiative (GLI), in collaboration with the London School of Economics and Political Science (LSE), is offering a unique opportunity for communicators to sharpen their skills and drive impactful narratives.

A Transformational Learning Experience

The fully funded five-day Masterclass in London is designed to equip passionate communicators with the knowledge, tools, and strategies needed to amplify the conversation on land degradation and restoration. This immersive program brings together journalists, podcasters, social media influencers, filmmakers, and environmental advocates from around the world to explore the critical role of media in addressing land-related challenges.

What Participants Will Learn

Through expert-led sessions and hands-on training, participants will delve into a wide range of topics, including:

• Understanding Land Restoration: Exploring the causes of land degradation and identifying actionable solutions.
• Power and Systems Thinking: Learning strategies for influencing public discourse and policy.
• Building Persuasive Narratives: Crafting compelling stories that resonate with diverse audiences.
• Media Engagement in a Crowded Public Sphere: Navigating the complexities of traditional and digital media landscapes.
• Exploring New Media Tools: Leveraging emerging technologies such as VR, AR, AI, podcasting, and citizen journalism.
• Site Visit: Experiencing a UK-based land restoration project firsthand.

Participants will leave the program equipped with tailored communication strategies to address land restoration challenges in their own countries. Exceptional projects developed during the course may also receive funding for implementation.

A Fully Funded Opportunity

This Masterclass is fully funded, covering:

• Flights to and from London
• Accommodation for the duration of the course
• Lunch during the training days

While LSE and GLI can provide letters of invitation, participants are responsible for securing their own visas.

How to Apply

To be considered for this opportunity, applicants must submit a short communications output highlighting a land restoration initiative in their country. The submission can take various forms, such as:

• A blog post (600 words max)
• A vlog (3 minutes max)
• A photo essay (12 images, 300 words max)
• A TikTok/Instagram reel (3 minutes max)
• A podcast (5 minutes max)
• A mini-documentary (3 minutes max)

All submissions must be in English and should aim to raise awareness about a land restoration effort, explain the problem, and showcase potential solutions.
