The 7000 Languages organization invites applications for its 2025 Language Revitalization Fellowship, a remote, part-time program designed to support individuals committed to language preservation and digital learning. Through this paid opportunity, selected fellows will develop online language learning materials using free educational technology tools. This global initiative welcomes applications from aspiring language advocates, particularly those from Indigenous and endangered language communities. What You’ll Do as a Fellow As a Language Revitalization Fellow, you will: Collaborate with your community to create accessible, engaging language learning materials. Partner with the 7000 Languages team to define project goals, timelines, and deliverables. Record, edit, and organize audio lessons, written content, and other digital materials. Apply language learning technology tools to design and publish online courses. Share best practices in course creation, such as ideal recording environments and file management techniques. Maintain and track course drafts and materials using proprietary tools. Contribute creative marketing content to promote your language and course rollout. Help improve and expand 7000 Languages’ technology platforms for community use. This is more than a fellowship—it’s a platform to lead change, safeguard cultural identity, and inspire others to learn and teach endangered languages. Who Should Apply? We strongly encourage applications from individuals actively working to reclaim, preserve, or teach endangered languages, particularly those with lived experience within such communities. You do not need to be enrolled in a college or university to apply. Candidates from all parts of the world are welcome. In 2025, special consideration and sponsored opportunities are available for fellows from the following regions: The Americas — with priority for applicants from Belize, Bolivia, Ecuador, Guatemala, Honduras, Nicaragua, and Peru. California — Indigenous and endangered language communities. West and Central Africa — especially Cameroon and Ghana. Only five fellows will be selected to join the Fall 2025 cohort. Ideal Candidate Profile The fellowship is best suited for independent, motivated individuals who: Belong to a community with an endangered language (strongly preferred). Are detail-oriented and organized in handling multiple tasks. Have strong writing and editing skills. Understand language revitalization efforts and cultural preservation. Have experience learning or teaching a second language. Are comfortable with digital tools, apps, and software platforms. Data Management Volunteer Support course maintenance by identifying errors, tracking course data, and updating partner databases. Requirements: Strong digital skills Experience in online course environments Proficiency in Excel and Word Knowledge of Indigenous language communities Time Commitment: 5 hours/week for 1–2 months 3. Community Engagement Volunteer Create social media content (especially TikTok and Instagram), write blog posts, organize virtual events, and assist with fundraising campaigns.
