Ibrahim Leadership Fellowships 2027: $100,000 Stipend for African Leaders Admin, November 4, 2026November 4, 2026 Applicatiin Deadline: November 202, 2026 Applications are open for the 2027 Ibrahim Leadership Fellowships, one of the most competitive leadership programs for African professionals. The Mo Ibrahim Foundation places fellows inside the executive offices of the African Development Bank (AfDB), the UN Economic Commission for Africa (UNECA) or the International Trade Centre (ITC) for 12 months, with a US$100,000 stipend. Only three fellows are selected each year, so this is a long shot for most people, but it’s also a real route into senior policy circles. For the AfDB placement, applications run from 21 September to 20 November 2026, with the deadline at 11:59 p.m. Addis Ababa time (GMT+3). That’s about two weeks from now. One important point: there is no single application. The Mo Ibrahim Foundation page doesn’t give one date or time zone, and applicants are directed to each host’s website for details and deadlines. Check your chosen host’s page before you plan your timeline. About the Fellowships The Mo Ibrahim Foundation set up the fellowships in 2011 to find and mentor Africa’s next generation of leaders. Fellows work in the executive offices of their host, contributing to policy, research and strategic decisions. They get direct mentorship from the leaders they work alongside. When the year ends, fellows join the Now Generation Network (NGN), a community of African leaders working on sustainable development. How to Apply and Key Dates You apply through the host institution you choose: AfDB, ITC or UNECA. Read that host’s vacancy page carefully for the documents and criteria it requires. Key dates: September 21, 2026: AfDB application period opened November 20, 2026, 11:59 p.m. (GMT+3): AfDB deadline ITC and UNECA: Check each host’s page for its deadline Tips for a Strong Application Choose your host deliberately. AfDB leans toward finance and development, UNECA toward economic policy and ITC toward trade and business. Count your seven years. List roles and dates clearly, since this requirement is firm. Show leadership, not just tenure. Describe what you led, changed or built. Link your story to Africa’s development. Explain what problem you want to help solve. Tailor every application. A generic submission won’t stand out against thousands of others. Prepare strong supporting documents. Ask referees early. Submit before the deadline, not on it. Time zones are easy to get wrong. Conclusion Three places across the whole continent is a small number, but each year those places go to people who prepared carefully and told a clear story. If you meet the requirements, give it your best shot. For more information and to apply, CLICK HERE Fellowships & Scholarship opportunities Opportunities for Africans
