Gender & AI Innovation Collective 2026 (Cohort 2) – Apply Now Admin, March 26, 2026March 26, 2026 Application Deadline: April 25, 2026 Applications are now open for the Gender & AI Innovation Collective 2026 (Cohort 2) — an exciting opportunity for women-led organizations and activists across Sub-Saharan Africa to design and deploy AI solutions that directly address community challenges. As artificial intelligence continues to reshape industries and societies globally, a critical question remains: Who gets to build these systems, and whose realities do they reflect? This initiative responds to that gap by empowering grassroots organizations — especially those focused on women’s rights — to actively shape AI technologies grounded in lived experiences. For changemakers working at the intersection of gender equality, human rights, and innovation, this program offers not just training, but the tools, funding, and support needed to turn ideas into real-world impact. About the Gender & AI Innovation Collective The Gender & AI Innovation Collective is a collaborative initiative designed to equip African women-led organizations with the knowledge and resources to harness artificial intelligence for social good. Co-led by Code for Africa and Women at the Table, and supported by International Development Research Centre and Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office, the program is rooted in the concept of Feminist AI — a framework that ensures technology is inclusive, ethical, and community-centered. Over the course of the program, selected participants will explore how AI can be used to tackle pressing challenges such as: Gender-based violence Economic inequality Healthcare access gaps Educational barriers What makes this opportunity stand out is its bottom-up approach. Rather than imposing solutions, the program recognizes that local organizations already understand their communities best — and simply need the tools and support to build impactful innovations. What the Program Offers Participants will undergo an intensive yet flexible 8-week virtual experience combining learning, collaboration, and hands-on development. Key Components: Community Learning & DevelopmentDive into structured modules covering Feminist AI, data ethics, machine learning models, and impact assessment frameworks.By the end, participants will develop a concept paper for an AI-driven solution tailored to a real community problem. Why This Opportunity Matters Across Africa, women’s rights organizations are doing critical work — but often without access to advanced digital tools like AI. This initiative addresses that gap by democratizing access to technology. By equipping local leaders with AI capabilities, the program ensures that innovation is: Context-specific Ethical and inclusive Designed for long-term impact In a world where AI systems increasingly influence decision-making, representation matters. Programs like this ensure that African women are not just users of technology — but creators and leaders in shaping its future. Tips for a Strong Application To stand out in your application, consider the following: 1. Focus on a Clear Problem Avoid vague ideas. Clearly define the issue your community faces and why it matters. 2. Show Community Connection Demonstrate how your organization engages with the community and understands its needs. 3. Think Practical, Not Perfect You don’t need a fully developed AI solution — just a strong, realistic idea with potential. 4. Highlight Collaboration Show how your team brings diverse skills (e.g., advocacy, research, tech, community work). 5. Emphasize Impact Explain how your solution could create meaningful, measurable change. Conclusion The Gender & AI Innovation Collective 2026 is a rare opportunity to bridge the gap between grassroots activism and cutting-edge technology.
