Fully Funded University of Global Health Equity Mastercard Foundation Scholars Program 2027 for African Healthcare Professionals

Admin, October 7, 2026October 7, 2026

Application Deadline: October 25, 2026

Applications are now open for the 2027 University of Global Health Equity (UGHE) Mastercard Foundation Scholars Program, offering eligible African healthcare professionals an opportunity to pursue a Master of Science in Health Professions Education (MSc in HPE).

The program is designed for health professionals who want to move beyond clinical practice and contribute to how future doctors, nurses, and other healthcare professionals are educated. It combines health professions education, leadership, innovation, quality improvement, and global health equity.

For African countries facing growing healthcare demands, strengthening the people who train healthcare professionals is particularly important. This scholarship therefore offers more than postgraduate study—it can help participants develop the skills needed to influence education, institutions, policy, and healthcare outcomes.

The application deadline is October 25, 2026, making early preparation important for applicants who need to obtain academic records, identification documents, and institutional recommendations.

About the UGHE Mastercard Foundation Scholars Program

The program is offered by the University of Global Health Equity (UGHE) in Rwanda and focuses on preparing health educators and academic leaders to develop high-quality, innovative, and equitable health professions education across Africa.

The MSc in Health Professions Education is particularly relevant to healthcare professionals involved in teaching, supervision, curriculum development, academic leadership, or educational management.

Participants will explore how to design and evaluate educational programs while developing leadership and change-management skills. The program also connects academic learning with practical institutional reform, quality assurance, digital innovation, and global health equity.

The flexible structure is designed with working professionals in mind, combining online learning with intensive in-person sessions at the UGHE campus.

What makes the program valuable?

Graduates can position themselves for roles such as health educators, clinical faculty members, program directors, deans, quality assurance specialists, and institutional leaders. They can also contribute to health education research and policy at institutional, national, and international levels.

Why You Should Apply: Practical Application Tips

This scholarship is particularly valuable for healthcare professionals who see education as a pathway to improving healthcare systems.

When preparing your application, do not simply list your qualifications. Show the impact of your experience. Explain how your teaching, mentoring, supervision, clinical, or leadership experience has influenced students, colleagues, patients, or institutions.

Be specific about the problem you want to address. For example, you might discuss gaps in clinical training, digital learning, curriculum quality, assessment, faculty development, or equitable access to health education.

Also explain why Health Professions Education is the right next step for your career and how you intend to apply the knowledge after graduation.

If you require an employer recommendation, request it early. A strong institutional letter should demonstrate genuine support and confirm your ability to participate in the program.

Finally, avoid waiting until the final days. Gather your documents, review your application carefully, and submit well before the deadline.

Conclusion

The UGHE Mastercard Foundation Scholars Program 2027 offers African healthcare professionals an opportunity to strengthen their expertise while preparing to influence the future of health professions education.
