Fully Funded Presidential Digital Talent Programme Cohort XI 2026/2027 (Kenya)

Admin, August 22, 2026August 22, 2026

Application Deadline: September 7, 2026

Applications are now open for the Presidential Digital Talent Programme (PDTP) Cohort XI 2026/2027, also known as Digitalent, giving young Kenyan ICT and engineering graduates an opportunity to gain practical workplace experience, mentorship and professional exposure.

Implemented by the ICT Authority on behalf of Kenya’s Ministry of Information, Communications and the Digital Economy, the programme is designed to help bridge the gap between university training and the technical capabilities demanded by today’s workforce.

For recent graduates struggling to secure that crucial first professional opportunity, a structured 12-month internship can provide more than a line on a CV. It can help participants translate academic knowledge into practical skills, understand workplace expectations and build relationships that can influence their future careers.

The latest cohort is particularly relevant to graduates interested in infrastructure, artificial intelligence, cybersecurity, data and digital media. Applications close at midnight on September 7, 2026.

About the Presidential Digital Talent Programme

The Presidential Digital Talent Programme is a government-backed talent development initiative intended to build a stronger pool of high-end ICT professionals in Kenya.

The programme addresses an important challenge facing many young graduates: having academic qualifications but limited opportunities to demonstrate their abilities in a real workplace. Its model combines internship experience with training, coaching, mentorship, professional networking and innovation. The official PDTP FAQ describes the programme as a 12-month internship focused on developing high-end ICT skills among fresh graduates.

This approach also supports Kenya’s wider digital transformation agenda. The ICT Authority’s mandate includes developing ICT capacity, promoting digital literacy and supporting innovation and digital enterprise.

According to the current Cohort XI announcement, applicants can pursue opportunities across five specialization areas:

  • Networks & Digital Infrastructure
  • Software Development & Artificial Intelligence
  • Information Security
  • Data Analytics
  • Multimedia, including Graphic Design & Digital Marketing

The programme is therefore broader than traditional software development and can accommodate graduates with different technical interests.

Key Benefits of the Digitalent Programme

Successful participants can expect an opportunity to:

  • Gain 12 months of practical workplace experience.
  • Develop technical skills relevant to their chosen specialization.
  • Receive mentorship, coaching and structured professional development.
  • Build professional networks with colleagues, institutions and potential employers.
  • Improve their understanding of workplace expectations and career pathways.
  • Strengthen their employability after graduation.
  • Develop and explore ICT innovations and solutions.
  • Gain exposure to public-sector and wider digital transformation projects.
  • Receive opportunities for training and certification as part of the broader programme model.

The value of the programme is especially significant for graduates who have strong academic backgrounds but have not yet accumulated substantial professional experience.

Who Is Eligible to Apply?

The opportunity is specifically targeted at young Kenyan graduates. Applicants should carefully check every requirement before starting the application.

Academic Requirements

Applicants must:

  • Be graduates of a recognized institution.
  • Have obtained First Class or Second Class Honours – Upper Division, or an equivalent qualification.
  • Have graduated within the last two years, beginning from January 2024.
  • Hold a relevant degree in ICT or an eligible engineering/technology discipline.

Relevant fields include ICT, Information Technology, Computer Science, Software Engineering, Information Systems, Computer Engineering, Electrical and Electronics Engineering, Telecommunications and related disciplines.

Applicants awaiting graduation up to December 2026 may also be considered if they provide a signed and stamped university recommendation/reference letter confirming that they are expected to graduate with First Class or Upper Second-Class Honours.

Other Eligibility Conditions

Applicants must also:

  • Be Kenyan citizens aged 21–29.
  • Be currently unemployed.
  • Have not previously participated in a Government of Kenya internship programme.
  • Be willing to work full-time from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m..
  • Be ready for deployment to an eligible government institution or agency in any of Kenya’s 47 counties.
  • Demonstrate technical knowledge in their selected specialization.

Women, persons with disabilities and graduates from Arid and Semi-Arid Lands (ASAL) regions are particularly encouraged to apply.

How to Apply for PDTP Cohort XI

Applications must be submitted online through the official Digitalent recruitment portal.

Before applying, candidates should prepare the required documents, which include:

  • National ID card or passport
  • KCSE certificate
  • Degree certificate or qualifying university recommendation/reference letter
  • Passport-size photograph
  • Any additional documentation required by the application portal

Applicants with degrees from foreign universities should pay particular attention to qualification verification requirements. The programme instructions also require relevant verification documentation and English translations where applicable. Applicants whose institutions use GPA systems should provide the appropriate Kenyan public-university grade equivalent.

First-time users should register on the recruitment system before completing the application. The portal states that applicants can revisit or amend their applications before the advert closes, but incomplete applications will not be considered.

Important Deadline

Application deadline: September 7, 2026, at midnight.

Do not wait until the final day. Technical problems, missing documents or difficulty obtaining university documents could prevent a candidate from submitting successfully.

How to Strengthen Your Application

Meeting the minimum requirements is only the first step. Applicants should use the process to demonstrate that they are prepared for professional ICT work.

1. Choose your specialization strategically

Do not select a track simply because it sounds popular. Consider your degree, technical strengths, projects and career goals.

For example, a graduate with strong programming projects may be better positioned for Software Development & AI, while someone with networking certifications or infrastructure experience may have a stronger case for Networks & Digital Infrastructure.

2. Prepare for technical assessment

The programme indicates that applicants may need to demonstrate technical competence before interviews.

Revise the fundamentals of your chosen field and be ready to explain projects you have completed. If you have built a website, analysed a dataset, configured a network, developed an application or created a cybersecurity project, understand the decisions behind your work.

3. Make your documentation accurate

Check names, dates, grades, identification numbers and academic information carefully before submitting. The application instructions warn against false or misleading information, so candidates should never exaggerate qualifications or experience.

4. Prepare beyond your CV

Think about examples that demonstrate problem-solving, teamwork, learning ability and initiative. A graduate who can clearly explain how they solved a technical problem may stand out more than someone who simply lists numerous technologies.

5. Apply early

Because the application window is limited, submitting early gives you time to correct errors and resolve documentation issues. The official recruitment system is the safest place to complete the application.

Why This Opportunity Matters

The transition from university to employment can be difficult, particularly in technology where employers often expect candidates to demonstrate practical capabilities in addition to academic qualifications.

PDTP addresses this gap by combining workplace exposure with training and mentorship. The ICT Authority says the programme is intended to improve graduates’ employability while supporting Kenya’s need for a skilled ICT workforce.

For participants, the biggest advantage may therefore be the opportunity to move from “I studied this” to “I have applied this in a professional environment.”

That distinction can make a meaningful difference when pursuing future employment, graduate programmes, technology roles or entrepreneurship opportunities.

Conclusion

The Presidential Digital Talent Programme Cohort XI 2026/2027 offers eligible young Kenyan ICT and engineering graduates a structured pathway into the technology workforce.

With opportunities spanning networks, software and AI, cybersecurity, data analytics and multimedia, the programme can help participants develop practical skills while building professional relationships and gaining valuable workplace exposure.

If you meet the eligibility requirements, start preparing your documents now rather than waiting for the deadline.
