Empowering Future Voices: The GDC 2025 Global Voices Essay Challenge

Admin, July 13, 2025July 13, 2025

Submission Deadline: July 15, 2025

As digital technologies continue to drive rapid transformation around the globe, the need for inclusive digital development has never been more urgent—especially in low- and middle-income countries (LMICs). To amplify the perspectives of emerging thought leaders, the Global Development Conference (GDC) 2025 has launched the Global Voices Essay Challenge, a powerful platform for students to share bold ideas and shape the discourse on sustainable digital futures.

Theme: Inclusive Digital Transformation for Sustainable Development

Participants are invited to explore the theme:
“What does inclusive digital transformation mean for sustainable development in LMICs?”

Your essay should reflect on how digital innovation is reshaping economies, education, social structures, and governance in LMICs—highlighting both the vast opportunities and pressing challenges. Key issues to consider include:

  • Digital inequality and access
  • Algorithmic bias
  • Youth engagement and activism
  • Digital governance and policy gaps

Submissions should be original, insightful, and rooted in local perspectives or lived experiences. Students are encouraged to propose practical recommendations and visionary ideas for more equitable digital futures.

Who Can Apply?

The essay contest is open to students at three academic levels:

  • Undergraduates: Personal insights and early reflections on digital change and its societal impact.
  • Master’s Students: Analytical or policy-driven essays tackling digital governance and equity.
  • PhD Candidates: Specialized yet accessible arguments offering deep insights from academic or professional contexts.

To participate, you must meet one of the following:

  • Be currently enrolled at an academic institution in an LMIC.
  • Have graduated from an LMIC-based institution within the last six months.
  • Be currently based in Clermont-Ferrand, France, regardless of nationality.
