Climate Democracy Accelerator 2027: $10,000 Grant, Apply Now

Admin, October 13, 2026October 13, 2026

Application Deadline: November 27, 2026.

Applications are now open for the Climate Democracy Accelerator (CDA), a six-month training and grant program from People Powered. It supports government and civil society leaders who want to involve citizens in climate policy. The application deadline is November 27, 2026.

Every selected participant receives a $10,000 implementation grant. The six strongest action plans in each cohort earn an extra $15,000.

For African leaders working on energy access, farming or climate policy, this is a chance to secure funding, mentorship and a global peer network. The program accepts participants from Africa, though applicants from Brazil, Indonesia, India and Mexico get priority.

About the Climate Democracy Accelerator

The CDA helps leaders launch participatory programs that shape climate policy. It focuses on regenerative agriculture, renewable energy and just transitions. Since 2023, it has supported more than 50 climate action and citizen engagement programs worldwide.

The idea is simple: climate solutions work better when communities help design them. The program backs projects that widen public participation in climate decisions and keep solutions fair and responsive to local needs.

How the Program Works

Participants receive step-by-step resources, live sessions, online courses and workshops. They also get a dedicated mentor, localised case studies and peer collaboration facilitated by in-country partners.

Benefits of the Program

  • $10,000 implementation grant: Every selected participant receives funding for their participatory climate project.
  • Additional $15,000 award: The top six action plans in each cohort receive more funding.
  • Dedicated mentor: Get one-on-one guidance as you build your project.
  • Training: Join live sessions, online courses and workshops.
  • Localised case studies: Learn from examples relevant to your context.
  • Peer network: Collaborate with other leaders, supported by in-country partners.
  • Implementation phase: Receive a year-long phase to put your action plan into practice.

Eligibility Requirements

The program is open to leaders from:

  • Governmental institutions
  • Civil society organizations
  • Non-governmental organizations

Priority goes to applicants from Brazil, Indonesia, India and Mexico. Additional spots are open to participants from other countries, especially in Africa, Asia and Latin America.

Projects should focus on participatory climate policy, ideally in regenerative agriculture or renewable energy. Participants must also be able to commit time to training, project development and peer learning from March to August 2027.

Application Process and Key Dates

Key dates:

  • October 13, 2026: Call posted
  • November 27, 2026: Application deadline
  • March to August 2027: Six-month program
  • After August 2027: Year-long implementation phase

The call does not list the application questions, so review the official page for the full requirements before you start.

Why You Should Apply: Tips for a Strong Application

Funded programs attract strong applicants. These tips can help yours stand out:

  1. Define a clear problem. Name the climate issue and the community it affects.
  2. Put participation at the centre. Show how citizens will help shape decisions, not just receive information.
  3. Choose a priority theme. Link your project to renewable energy or regenerative agriculture.
  4. Show institutional backing. Explain how your government office or organisation will support the work.
  5. Plan your budget. Show how $10,000 would move your project forward.
  6. Think beyond six months. The plan should work during the year-long implementation phase.
  7. Highlight your local knowledge. Africa is a priority region for extra spots, so show you understand your context.
  8. Apply early. Don’t wait for the final week of November.

Conclusion

The Climate Democracy Accelerator combines funding, mentorship and a global network for leaders who believe communities should help shape climate policy. If you work in government or civil society, your project may be a strong fit.
