Applications are now open for the Youth Delegate Programme at the Helsinki Security Forum (HSF) 2025, taking place from 19–21 September 2025 in Helsinki, Finland.

This flagship event brings together leaders, policymakers, academics, and young professionals to discuss critical issues in foreign and security policy. The 2025 edition, themed “The Hour of Europe,” aims to spark dialogue and fresh perspectives on pressing global challenges.

What Makes a Strong Candidate?

Applicants should demonstrate a strong interest and background in areas such as:

• Security and defence policy
• International relations
• European foreign policy
• Peace and conflict studies

Eligibility requirements include:

• Age: Applicants must be under 30 years old.
• Experience: Relevant academic or professional background in defence, security, or related fields.
• Essay submission: A 700–1000 word essay on a pressing security or defence topic, aligned with the HSF 2025 theme, “The Hour of Europe.”
• Social media engagement: A commitment to actively share insights and experiences from the forum.

Please note that the program is open to all nationalities. However, applicants must independently handle visa arrangements, as HSF is unable to provide visa support.

Essay Submission Guidelines

As part of the application, candidates must submit an original essay that reflects personal insights on a security or defence issue relevant to Europe. The essay should:

• Demonstrate analytical depth and originality.
• Provide clear and practical perspectives on current or emerging challenges.
• Align with the 2025 forum theme to ensure relevance and impact.

Essays from selected participants will be published as part of HSF Insights, ensuring that your voice reaches a wide global audience.
