In a bold move to improve healthcare across Nigeria, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has announced the establishment of the National Health Fellows Programme. This initiative aims to upgrade existing primary healthcare centres and construct over 8,800 new facilities in all local government areas, ensuring accessible and quality healthcare delivery. The programme will also introduce new social accountability mechanisms to enhance service delivery. The fellowship is managed by the Sector Wide Approach (SWAp) coordination office under the Office of the Coordinating Minister of Health and Social Welfare. Selected fellows will be engaged in each of Nigeria’s 774 local government areas, receiving appropriate training and tools to foster positive change within the health sector.

Eligibility Requirements for Applicants

If you’re interested in applying for this transformative fellowship, here are the eligibility criteria you need to meet:

  1. Age: Candidates must be between 25 and 35 years old.
  2. Education: A Bachelor’s degree in health-related fields, IT, or social sciences is required.
  3. Experience: Applicants should demonstrate a genuine interest or have experience in public health or with health-related NGOs and partner organizations. Involvement in community projects showcasing leadership skills will also be considered beneficial.
  4. Commitment: Candidates must be available full-time throughout the duration of the fellowship programme.
  5. Local Indigene: You must be an indigene of the state you wish to apply for.
  6. Technology Requirements: Possession of a smartphone with data capabilities is essential for communication via platforms such as WhatsApp and Zoom.
  7. Recommendations: A recommendation from your University Dean, NYSC place of primary assignment, or a respected organization that can attest to your character and leadership qualities is necessary.
  8. Skills: Demonstrated analytical skills along with an entrepreneurial spirit are highly valued traits for candidates applying for this fellowship opportunity.
