The Meltwater Entrepreneurial School of Technology (MEST) is calling on innovative minds across West Africa to apply for the MEST AI Startup Program 2026 — a fully funded, 12-month journey designed to nurture the next generation of high-impact AI startups on the continent.

This intensive program aims to empower emerging AI entrepreneurs with advanced technical, business, and leadership training, positioning them to build globally competitive ventures. Structured in two transformative phases, the MEST AI Startup Program offers a unique blend of training, mentorship, real-world experience, and startup incubation.

Program Breakdown

Phase 1: Seven-Month Immersive Training (January – July 2026)

Participants will undergo hands-on, project-based learning to refine their startup ideas, develop AI-powered MVPs, and master AI software development. The training emphasizes lean startup principles, go-to-market strategy, and business modeling. Trainees will also have direct access to top-tier mentors, AI practitioners, and global experts. The training phase concludes with a high-stakes pitch session, where the top teams will be selected for incubation.

Phase 2: Four-Month Incubation (September – December 2026)

Selected startups will transition into a structured incubation phase aimed at accelerating growth. This period focuses on user acquisition, product refinement, customer validation, and preparing for investment. Participants will collaborate with investors, mentors, and ecosystem leaders to build sustainable AI businesses with global potential.

Who Can Apply?

The program targets AI enthusiasts and tech-driven changemakers between the ages of 21 and 30 who are citizens of West African countries. Eligible applicants must demonstrate:

  • Proven experience in software development
  • Basic understanding of artificial intelligence
  • Passion for entrepreneurship and innovation
  • Readiness for an intensive 12-month commitment

Applicants must be available to participate full-time in both phases of the program and be prepared to relocate to Ghana for the training component.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Previous entrepreneurial or startup experience
  • Experience with AI-based innovation
  • Interest in scaling solutions to global markets
  • Ability to work in diverse, cross-functional teams

Recruitment Focus & Selection Process

For the 2026 intake, in-person interviews and group challenges will be held in Ghana, Nigeria, and Senegal. Candidates from other West African countries are welcome to apply, provided they can attend the interview phase in one of the designated locations.
