Admin, May 5, 2025

Application deadline: October 31, 2025

The United Nations Institute for Training and Research (UNITAR) has announced the launch of its highly anticipated Global Youth Scholars Development Programme for the 2025/2026 cycle. This prestigious initiative is crafted to develop young changemakers aged 18 to 24, equipping them with the skills and experience to evaluate and contribute meaningfully to the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Applications are currently open, with the final submission deadline set for October 31, 2025.

A Transformative, Fully Funded Year-Long Experience

This dynamic and completely free programme spans from April 2025 to February 2026. It presents a comprehensive learning experience combining virtual modules, hands-on community research, mentorship, and international exposure. Participants will be immersed in SDG-related learning and analysis, culminating in a global showcase where top candidates will present their work before United Nations officials in Geneva, Switzerland.

Programme Highlights and Structure

The Global Youth Scholars Development Programme is structured to deliver value across four core components:

  • Monthly Online Training (June–December 2025): Participants will engage in intensive virtual coursework led by UN experts and sustainability practitioners. Topics include citizen-led SDG monitoring, digital evaluation tools, and participatory research techniques.
  • Field-Based Community Research (July–December 2025): Scholars will apply their training to real-world settings by evaluating the implementation of SDGs in their local communities, creating practical, data-driven insights.
  • Global Study Visits (July, August, October & November 2025): Selected candidates may opt for in-person visits to Geneva, Tokyo, Osaka, Singapore, and other global cities. These visits include immersive tours of international institutions, exposure to diplomatic events, and networking opportunities with global leaders. Note that travel costs for these visits are participant-funded based on personal circumstances.
  • Final Evaluation and Recognition (December 2025–February 2026): Upon completion of all modules and submission of final reports, outstanding participants will be invited to Geneva in February 2026. Here, they will showcase their work, connect with decision-makers, and receive recognition for their contributions.
