Apply Now for The NewNow Emerging Young Leaders Program: Empowering the Next Generation of Global South Changemakers

Admin, November 8, 2025November 8, 2025

Application Deadline: February 16, 2026

The NewNow Emerging Young Leaders Program, powered by One Young World, is a transformative initiative designed to empower a new generation of changemakers from the Global South. This prestigious program brings together visionary leaders who are shaping the future through systems-thinking, collaboration, and collective action.

The NewNow community is built on the belief that young leaders, when united by purpose and guided by shared learning, can redefine the narrative of leadership. By equipping participants with the tools, mentorship, and networks they need, the program amplifies their ability to create long-term, systemic change in their communities and beyond.

Program Overview

Each year, the NewNow program selects ten exceptional leaders from across the Global South who are tackling some of the world’s most pressing challenges. These leaders are individuals who have demonstrated an unwavering commitment to solving complex local and global issues through innovative, sustainable, and collaborative approaches.

Selected participants will receive:

  • A full scholarship to attend the One Young World Summit 2026 in Cape Town, joining thousands of other changemakers from around the globe.
  • Lifelong membership in the One Young World Ambassador Community, a global network of over 17,000 young leaders.
  • Exclusive visibility on One Young World and Virgin Unite platforms, providing exposure to influential audiences and potential partners.
  • Access to the Global Leadership Programme and Action Accelerator, designed to build leadership capacity and foster impactful project development.
  • Membership in The NewNow Community, offering long-term collaboration, mentorship, and peer-to-peer learning opportunities.

Capacity Building and Systems Leadership

The NewNow initiative is not just about recognition—it is about transformation. Through a series of capacity-building workshops and leadership sessions, participants gain deeper insight into systems leadership, sustainability, and innovative problem-solving.

The program emphasizes collective action, encouraging fellows to collaborate on joint advocacy projects and community-driven solutions that target the root causes of systemic inequality. Each fellow becomes a catalyst for lasting change, influencing not only their communities but also inspiring global action toward a more equitable and sustainable future.

Eligibility Criteria

The program is open to young leaders who meet the following requirements:

  • Aged 18 to 30 years.
  • Nationals of countries within the Global South.
  • Demonstrated track record of leadership through real, measurable, and sustainable initiatives.
  • Proven understanding of key global and local issues requiring systems-thinking approaches.
  • Commitment to collaboration and collective advocacy, working with other NewNow fellows to promote effective systems change.

Applicants must show evidence of impactful leadership and the ability to scale their initiatives to achieve broader social or environmental transformation.

Program Impact

The NewNow Emerging Young Leaders Program represents an important platform for recognizing and empowering the next wave of young innovators who are reimagining the future. By connecting diverse leaders from different regions and sectors, it fosters interdisciplinary collaboration and collective empowerment, driving progress across the Global South.

Beyond the individual benefits, the program amplifies voices that have often been underrepresented in global development conversations. Each participant’s journey contributes to a shared mission—to build a more inclusive, sustainable, and just world through the power of youth leadership and systems transformation.

Why the NewNow Program Matters

This initiative goes beyond traditional leadership recognition programs by cultivating leaders who think holistically, act collaboratively, and lead with purpose. The NewNow community embodies a forward-thinking movement that blends innovation, advocacy, and mentorship to drive real impact across the Global South.

By joining this network, selected leaders become part of a larger movement that continues to influence global policies, inspire local action, and shape the future of leadership for generations to come.
