Admin, November 10, 2025November 10, 2025

Application Deadline: January 11, 2026.

The Kinship Conservation Fellowship 2026 is a prestigious international leadership program dedicated to equipping conservation professionals with the knowledge, skills, and innovative mindset to implement sustainable, market-driven solutions for global environmental challenges.

Founded on the belief that conservation must be economically viable to be sustainable, the Fellowship blends economic principles with ecological expertise to help practitioners design impactful projects that balance environmental protection with financial resilience.

A Transformative Learning Experience for Conservation Practitioners

Each year, the Fellowship gathers 18 accomplished conservation leaders from across the world for an intensive month-long experience in Bellingham, Washington, USA. The program combines classroom learning, practical workshops, and peer-to-peer collaboration, creating a dynamic environment for professional growth and innovation.

The curriculum is shaped around the Six Kinship Conservation Pillars for market-based solutions:

  • Leading Adaptively – Enhancing leadership flexibility and decision-making in complex conservation contexts.
  • Iterating for Scale – Designing projects that can grow sustainably and deliver large-scale impact.
  • Designing for Governing the Commons – Promoting shared stewardship of natural resources.
  • Identifying an Economic Engine – Embedding financial sustainability in conservation strategies.
  • Financing Conservation – Developing funding models that attract investment and ensure longevity.
  • Evaluating for Impact – Measuring real-world outcomes to strengthen project effectiveness.

Led by an esteemed faculty of international experts, the Fellowship offers participants access to cutting-edge knowledge, mentorship, and practical frameworks for integrating economics into conservation planning.

Who Can Apply

The Kinship Conservation Fellowship is open to mid-career professionals with:

  • At least five years of professional experience in conservation or environmental management.
  • A four-year college degree (or its equivalent).
  • Proven ability to communicate effectively in English.
  • A leadership role implementing market-based or community-driven conservation initiatives.

Applicants should not be primarily academics or researchers but active practitioners leading real-world conservation efforts.

Every applicant must submit a project proposal outlining a pressing environmental challenge they are addressing and how they plan to develop a market-based solution through the Fellowship.

Program Benefits

Selected Fellows receive a stipend of US$8,000 (subject to applicable U.S. tax withholdings). Non-U.S. citizens will receive an estimated net payment of approximately $5,600 after standard deductions. Fellows are responsible for their own tax obligations in their respective countries.

Beyond financial support, the program offers unparalleled opportunities to:

  • Collaborate with a diverse, global cohort of conservation innovators.
  • Access world-class faculty, mentors, and professional networks.
  • Strengthen leadership, business, and strategic skills for high-impact environmental work.
  • Refine and scale their existing conservation projects with expert feedback.

By the end of the Fellowship, participants emerge with enhanced strategic insight, global networks, and practical tools to create measurable environmental and economic outcomes in their communities.

A Global Network for Long-Term Impact

Kinship Fellows become part of an expanding international network of over 300 alumni from more than 60 countries. This lifelong community of practice fosters continued collaboration, knowledge exchange, and mentorship long after the program ends.
