Admin, January 12, 2026January 12, 2026

Application Deadline: March 31, 2026

The International Centre for Genetic Engineering and Biotechnology (ICGEB) is now accepting applications for the prestigious Arturo Falaschi Postdoctoral Fellowship Program 2026, offering emerging scientists an opportunity to advance their research careers in world-class laboratories. This program provides a platform for talented researchers to deepen their expertise in life sciences while contributing to groundbreaking discoveries that address global challenges in health, agriculture, and the environment.

About the Arturo Falaschi Postdoctoral Fellowship

The ICGEB Postdoctoral Fellowship is a competitive, fully funded program designed to support early-career scientists from ICGEB Member States. The fellowship enables selected researchers to work in one of ICGEB’s advanced research facilities in Trieste (Italy), New Delhi (India), or Cape Town (South Africa). Each location offers a dynamic international research environment, access to modern laboratories, and mentoring by renowned scientists.

The program duration is two years, with the possibility of an extension for one additional year based on performance and available funding. Fellows benefit from continuous professional growth through seminars, scientific training, and participation in international conferences.

Funding and Benefits

The Arturo Falaschi Fellowship offers generous financial support tailored to each host center’s cost of living:

  • Trieste, Italy: â‚¬2,300 per month
  • New Delhi, India: US$1,749 per month
  • Cape Town, South Africa: ZAR 27,500 per month

Beyond the monthly stipend, fellows receive medical insurance coverage, visa and travel reimbursements, and support for research-related expenses. Group Leaders often sponsor fellows’ participation in academic events and international conferences to foster exposure and collaboration.

While family-related financial support is not included, the fellowship ensures accommodation assistance at each location. For example, Trieste provides housing contacts, New Delhi offers on-campus guest housing, and Cape Town assists fellows in securing accommodation before arrival.

All fellowships will officially commence on 1 October 2026.

Eligibility Criteria

Applicants must meet the following requirements:

  • Be a national of an ICGEB Member State.
  • Not undertake the fellowship in their home country, unless they have resided abroad for at least three years at the time of application.
  • Hold a recent PhD in Life Sciences or have a minimum of three years of research experience.
  • Be ideally under 35 years of age at the time of application.

The program seeks highly motivated individuals ready to contribute innovative ideas and research to the field of life sciences.

Application Process

To apply, candidates must first identify and contact an ICGEB Group Leader or Principal Investigator to discuss potential research collaboration. Applicants must send a motivation letter outlining their research interests and confirm the availability of lab space. The Group Leader’s written statement of support for the proposed project is a compulsory document for submission.

Applications must be submitted online through the official ICGEB Fellowship Portal. Each applicant is allowed only one submission per call. Required documents include:

  • A complete CV
  • Academic transcripts with English translations
  • The Group Leader’s statement
  • A valid identity document
  • Proof of English language proficiency (if applicable)

After submission, applications are reviewed and endorsed by the ICGEB National Liaison Officer of the applicant’s country. Only endorsed applications proceed to the ICGEB Selection Committee, which evaluates candidates based on scientific merit, the relevance of research, and potential contributions to their home country. Successful applicants are notified via email.
