About the NourishNext West Africa Youth Agri-Food Innovation Challenge

The NourishNext West Africa Youth Agri-Food Innovation Challenge is designed to identify and support youth-led innovations that strengthen nutritious fruit and vegetable value chains throughout the region.

The initiative focuses on building resilient, nutrition-sensitive food systems by encouraging innovative solutions that address challenges across the entire agricultural value chain—from production and processing to storage, transportation, marketing, distribution, and consumer behavior.

The challenge is implemented by the Global Alliance for Improved Nutrition (GAIN) in partnership with the Scaling Up Nutrition (SUN) Movement and national implementing partners in Benin, Côte d’Ivoire, Nigeria, and Senegal. It is supported by the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation (SDC) and the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS).

Rather than supporting ideas alone, the program seeks innovations that have already demonstrated technical feasibility and show strong potential for scaling their impact. Who Can Apply?

Be 18–35 years old
Women-led innovations may apply up to 40 years of age

Be based in or working within the eligible West African countries and target region
Have an innovation that is beyond the idea stage
Possess at least one of the following:
- Functional prototype
- Proof of concept
- Minimum Viable Product (MVP)
- More advanced validated solution
Demonstrate that the innovation has practical application and potential for growth

Preference will be given to innovations that have already been tested in real-world environments and demonstrate strong potential for scale and measurable impact.

Purely conceptual ideas without a working prototype will not be considered.
