Applications Open for Climate, Peace and Security Programme by AGNES

Admin, June 11, 2025June 11, 2025

Application Deadline: June 20, 2025

The African Group of Negotiators Expert Support (AGNES) has officially opened applications for the highly impactful Climate, Peace and Security Programme, a timely initiative responding to the growing links between environmental degradation and global instability. This comprehensive programme aims to build a new generation of professionals capable of tackling climate-driven security challenges through integrated, practical solutions.

A Timely Response to Global Crises

As climate change continues to disrupt ecosystems and economies, its role in aggravating social, political, and economic tensions is undeniable. Prolonged droughts, rising sea levels, and extreme weather events have increased competition over natural resources, displaced communities, and intensified vulnerabilities in fragile regions—especially across Africa.

AGNES’s Climate, Peace and Security Programme rises to meet this moment. It provides the knowledge and tools required to design sustainable peacebuilding strategies that are climate-responsive and conflict-sensitive. By promoting cross-sector collaboration and local empowerment, the programme fosters resilience in regions most affected by climate volatility.

Programme Mission and Objectives

The mission of the programme is to equip both current and future leaders with interdisciplinary expertise to navigate the intersection of climate change, peace, and security. It encourages inclusive dialogue and policy innovation while strengthening strategic actions across levels.

  • Support preventive diplomacy using early warning systems informed by climate data.
