Admin, March 27, 2025March 27, 2025

Application Deadline: April 22, 2025

The World Trade Organization (WTO) has officially opened applications for the 2025/26 edition of its Young Professionals Programme (YPP). Launched in 2016, this initiative provides talented young professionals from developing and least-developed WTO member countries with an opportunity to enhance their expertise in global trade and WTO-related matters. The programme aims to increase diversity within the WTO Secretariat by encouraging participation from underrepresented nations.

Through this prestigious opportunity, participants gain valuable experience in international trade, positioning themselves for future roles within the WTO, regional trade organizations, or other global institutions. The programme supports the WTO’s broader mission of fostering inclusive representation and developing skilled professionals in global trade governance.

Programme Overview

Selected candidates will be assigned to a specific division within the WTO Secretariat, with placements determined based on both organizational needs and the individual’s area of interest. Participants may engage in diverse trade-related areas, including:

  • Market access and trade negotiations
  • Dispute resolution and legal frameworks
  • Intellectual property rights
  • Trade and environmental policies
  • Investment regulations
  • Agricultural trade
  • Government procurement
  • Trade-related technical assistance

The programme lasts for one year, with no possibility of extension. This timeframe allows participants to gain meaningful exposure to WTO operations while contributing to critical global trade discussions.

Eligibility Criteria

To qualify for the WTO Young Professionals Programme, applicants must meet the following requirements:

  • Citizenship: Must be a national of a WTO member country
  • Educational Background: Hold an advanced degree in law, economics, or a field relevant to international trade
  • Work Experience: At least two years of professional experience in a related field
  • Language Skills: Fluency in English is mandatory; proficiency in French or Spanish is an asset
  • Age Requirement: Must be 32 years old or younger at the start of the programme

This competitive programme seeks individuals with a strong passion for international trade and a commitment to advancing WTO-related initiatives.
