Applications Now Open for 2026 AWARD Leadership Program for Emerging African Women in Agricultural Sciences Admin, August 22, 2026August 22, 2026 Introduction Applications are now open for the 2026 AWARD Leadership Program for Emerging African Women in Agricultural Sciences. If you are a young woman in agriculture with big ideas but feel stuck in systems that werenโt built for you, this program was designed for you. The AWARD Leadership Program is a career-transforming initiative by African Women in Agricultural Research and Development [AWARD], funded by the Andrew Carnegie Foundation. Its mission is simple but urgent: build the next generation of women leaders who will shape food systems, research, and policy across Africa. In a continent where agriculture employs over 60% of the workforce, yet women remain underrepresented in leadership and decision-making roles, this program matters. Itโs not just about training. Itโs about visibility, voice, and power. For 9 months, 40 selected women will get the tools to lead teams, pitch research, and champion gender equality in science. About the Program The AWARD Leadership Program for Emerging African Women in Science is a customized, non-residential learning experience for high-potential women under 35 working in agricultural sciences. Background & MissionAWARD has spent years addressing a core problem: women make up a large part of Africaโs agricultural labor force, but very few rise to senior research, policy, or executive roles. Institutional barriers, limited networks, and lack of mentorship slow progress. This program tackles that directly. It invests in women already doing the work in government, NGOs, academia, research, civil society, and the private sector, and equips them to move into leadership. What Makes It Different Unlike short workshops, this is a 9-month intensive journey. It combines training, coaching, and networking to help you grow technically and as a leader. The focus is practical: how to manage people, navigate organizations, build alliances, and pitch your ideas to funders who can scale your impact. The program is open to women from Benin, Burkina Faso, Cรดte dโIvoire, Ethiopia, Ghana, Kenya, Malawi, Nigeria, Senegal, Tanzania, and Zambia. Benefits: What Selected Participants Receive If selected, you will join a cohort of up to 40 women and their mentors for a transformative 9 months.
