Applications Now open for Institute for Peace and Security Studies (IPSS) MA and PhD in Global Studies

Admin, January 25, 2025January 26, 2025

Application Deadline: February 28, 2025

The Institute for Peace and Security Studies (IPSS) is now accepting applications for its prestigious MA and PhD programs in Global Studies for the 2025 academic year. These programs offer a specialized focus on peace and security challenges in Africa while integrating a broader global perspective.

The Global Studies programs at IPSS provide an interdisciplinary approach, combining peace and security studies with comparative global analysis. By examining historical and contemporary global interconnections, students gain a comprehensive understanding of the shifting dynamics of international relations, regionalism, and the evolving role of nation-states in the global order.

Program Highlights

The MA and PhD programs are delivered in collaboration with Leipzig University in Germany, offering students a unique academic experience that blends theoretical and methodological foundations in peace and security studies with real-world global insights. Participants will have the opportunity to engage in cutting-edge research, benefit from international academic networks, and explore contemporary security issues through a global lens.

Tuition Fees and Scholarship Opportunities

The tuition fee for the MA program is €3,600 per academic year.

The tuition fee for the PhD program is €5,000 per academic year.

Recognizing the financial barriers that some students may face, the program offers scholarships through the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD). Since its selection by DAAD in 2015, the program has provided two key funding options:

Germany Scholarships – These scholarships support two MA students and one PhD student to help cover costs during their study period in Leipzig, Germany.

Sur-Place Scholarships – These grants assist students with expenses during their time in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, reducing the overall tuition fees for one academic term.
