Who Can Apply for the Yale Peace Fellowship?

Applicants should:

• Be accomplished in the field of peace and reconciliation.
• Have a strong record of leadership and a desire to continue developing professionally.
• Demonstrate a commitment to cross-cultural understanding.
• Be fluent in English.
• Be a citizen of a country other than the United States. Dual U.S. citizens may apply, although Yale gives strong preference to candidates whose work is focused outside the United States.
• Typically have at least five years of significant professional experience. Yale notes that high-level, full-time internships demonstrating leadership and responsibility may count in some cases.
• Be available to participate fully in both the virtual and in-person components of the fellowship.

Application Process and Key Dates

The application is completed online through Yale’s application system. There are no paper forms to submit.

Applicants will need to prepare:

1. A résumé or CV of no more than three pages.
2. A personal statement of up to 600 words.
3. A 90-second video statement, recorded through the application system.
4. One recommendation letter. Yale accepts only one recommendation letter.
5. A US$20 electronic application fee. Yale states that this fee is required and that fee waivers are not available.

Yale strongly recommends submitting the application at least 24 hours before the deadline, and no deadline extensions will be granted.

Because only one recommendation letter is accepted, select someone who knows your leadership and peacebuilding work well and can provide concrete examples of your impact.
