This prestigious six-month fellowship aims to advance affordable, reliable, and resilient Internet access by enhancing local interconnection infrastructure and fostering policy environments that encourage a robust digital economy. Launched as part of the Internet Society’s broader mission to ensure an open, globally connected, secure, and trustworthy Internet, the Peering Fellowship brings together emerging leaders from the Latin America and Caribbean (LAC), Africa, and Asia-Pacific (APAC) regions. The initiative is tailored for individuals actively working in Internet policy, business, or technical fields related to peering and transit. Fifteen professionals will be selected for the program, which combines virtual training, in-person participation in global peering events, and collaborative forums that drive local and regional impact. Throughout the six months, fellows will receive technical and advocacy-based training in areas such as routing, Internet Exchange Points (IXPs), and Internet policy. In addition to theoretical learning, fellows will gain practical experience by engaging with the international peering community and contributing to meaningful projects that enhance interconnection in their regions. One of the highlights of the fellowship is the opportunity to attend a major peering event. Travel support includes: A round-trip airfare to one of the selected events Hotel accommodation for the duration of the event A fixed stipend to cover incidental expenses The selected events for 2025 include: AfPIF (Africa Peering and Interconnection Forum): August 19–21, 2025 LACNOG (Latin American and Caribbean Network Operators Group): October 6–10, 2025 Peering Asia: November 4–6, 2025 Participation in one of these events enables fellows to engage directly with the global peering ecosystem, exchange ideas, and build lasting professional relationships that extend far beyond the fellowship. To be eligible, applicants must: Reside in the LAC, Africa, or APAC regions Possess a valid passport with specific expiry dates depending on the region Have a minimum of three years’ experience in the Internet industry Demonstrate availability for virtual sessions (between 11:00–15:00 UTC) and commit approximately four hours weekly for six months Have consistent broadband access and a good command of English (the working language of the program) Selection is based on a rigorous two-stage review process. All applicants will be notified of the outcome after the selection process concludes. By participating in this fellowship, individuals become part of a growing network of Internet leaders committed to driving inclusive digital development. Fellows will deepen their expertise, expand their influence, and make meaningful contributions to improving Internet connectivity in underserved regions.
