Applications are Now Open for the AMR Leaders Program 2026 (Cohort 4)

Admin, January 14, 2026January 14, 2026

Application Deadline: 23rd January 2026

Applications are open for the AMR Leaders Program 2026 (Cohort 4) — a transformative opportunity for undergraduate students across Africa to gain leadership skills, scientific knowledge, and real-world experience in tackling Antimicrobial Resistance (AMR).

Organized by ReAct Africa and the ReAct Africa Network (RAN), this fully virtual program equips young Africans with the skills to lead community health initiatives and contribute to Africa’s collective response to the global AMR challenge.

Now in its fourth cohort, the AMR Leaders Program continues to nurture a continent-wide network of passionate students committed to creating a healthier, more sustainable future.

About the AMR Leaders Program

The AMR Leaders Program is an innovative capacity-building and leadership development initiative led by ReAct Africa. It empowers young African students to understand and address antimicrobial resistance — a growing global crisis that threatens the effectiveness of life-saving medicines.

Through a mix of expert-led sessions, peer learning, and practical engagement, participants explore the One Health approach, which connects human, animal, and environmental health. This holistic framework helps them understand that combating AMR requires collaboration across all sectors.

By the end of the program, participants emerge not just as learners but as leaders capable of driving change in their communities.

Why the Program Matters

Antimicrobial resistance poses a major threat to public health, food safety, and sustainable development. In Africa, where infectious diseases continue to burden communities, the need for AMR awareness and responsible antibiotic use is more urgent than ever.

The AMR Leaders Program was created to address this need by empowering young people to become advocates for health, science, and community resilience. Graduates of earlier cohorts have led awareness campaigns, promoted antibiotic stewardship, and collaborated with stakeholders to influence AMR policies at local and national levels.

This fourth cohort aims to build on that success by developing even more young champions who will lead Africa’s response to antimicrobial resistance.

Benefits of Joining the AMR Leaders Program

Students selected for Cohort 4 will participate in a dynamic learning journey designed to inspire leadership and practical action. Participants will:

  • Gain a solid understanding of AMR and One Health: Learn how antimicrobial resistance develops and explore effective prevention and control strategies.
  • Build leadership and advocacy skills: Discover how to lead projects, influence change, and raise awareness within their communities.
  • Connect with peers and mentors across Africa: Join a growing network of young leaders and health experts who are passionate about public health and innovation.
  • Engage in real-world community action: Translate classroom knowledge into impactful initiatives that promote responsible antibiotic use.

The program’s interactive format ensures that participants not only learn but also collaborate, innovate, and apply their skills to real challenges in their local contexts.

Who Can Apply

The AMR Leaders Program is open to undergraduate students currently studying in Africa who are enthusiastic about leadership, science, health, or community development.

While students from all academic disciplines are encouraged to apply, those studying health sciences, pharmacy, microbiology, veterinary medicine, agriculture, or environmental studies will find the program especially relevant.

Applicants should be eager to learn, motivated to contribute, and committed to making a difference in their communities.

Program Format

This edition of the AMR Leaders Program will be conducted entirely online, making it accessible to students from all regions of Africa. The virtual format features live interactive sessions, mentorship, and collaborative learning experiences that allow participants to engage deeply with the content while balancing their academic responsibilities.

By the end of the program, participants will have developed a deeper understanding of AMR, enhanced leadership and communication skills, and gained the confidence to lead change in their communities.

A Growing Network of Young Leaders

Over the years, the AMR Leaders Program has built a vibrant network of passionate young advocates across Africa. Alumni have gone on to launch awareness campaigns, lead student health clubs, and participate in international AMR initiatives.

Cohort 4 promises to build on this strong foundation by preparing a new wave of young leaders who are ready to take action, share knowledge, and strengthen Africa’s health systems.

By joining this movement, students will not only grow personally and professionally but also contribute to a cause that affects millions of lives worldwide.

Conclusion

The AMR Leaders Program 2026 (Cohort 4) is more than a training program — it’s a leadership journey that empowers African youth to act, educate, and advocate for a healthier future.

If you are an undergraduate student passionate about public health, science, or sustainable development, this is your opportunity to become part of Africa’s movement against antimicrobial resistance.
