This opportunity is tailored for Ph.D. candidates and recent Ph.D. graduates who are nationals of Sub-Saharan Africa. The program offers selected fellows a unique six-month assignment at WBG headquarters in Washington, D.C., or in one of the World Bank’s country offices, providing a transformative experience in international development work.

Eligibility Criteria

To qualify for the WBG Africa Fellowship Program, applicants must meet the following requirements:

• Be a national of a Sub-Saharan African country
• Be a recent Ph.D. graduate (within three years of completion) or currently enrolled in the final year of a Ph.D. program
• Be proficient in English (spoken and written)
• Possess strong quantitative and analytical skills
• Be under the age of 32 by the application deadline (August 25, 2025)

Selection Process Overview

The application and selection process consists of two key phases:

Phase I – Shortlisting:
A pool of candidates will be shortlisted based on their field of study and relevance to the World Bank’s thematic areas. These candidates will be reviewed by different units within the World Bank Group for potential placements.

Phase II – Final Selection:
After internal consultations, selected candidates will receive formal offers. Those who accept will be hired as short-term consultants, officially beginning their six-month fellowship in January 2026.
