Miles Morland Writing Scholarships 2025 Now Open for African Writers

The Miles Morland Foundation has officially opened applications for the prestigious 2025 Morland Writing Scholarships, offering a transformative opportunity for African writers to focus on developing their literary work. The application window opens on Tuesday, 1st July 2025 and closes on Friday, 19th September 2025.

Writers interested in applying are strongly encouraged to thoroughly read the Entry Requirements and FAQs available on the foundation’s website. Submissions that do not adhere to these guidelines will be disqualified without review.

The foundation welcomes both first-time applicants and those who have applied in previous years but were unsuccessful. While not mandatory, returning applicants are advised to submit significantly improved work, with stronger book proposals and writing samples that reflect growth and creative evolution. The judges will view such development positively.

Meet the Judging Panel

The 2025 selection panel has been further strengthened with the addition of acclaimed author Goretti Kyomuhendo. Goretti is the founder of FEMWRITE, a women’s writing organization, and the African Writers Trust, which has empowered writers across the continent and diaspora through impactful workshops and conferences. Her insight and commitment to African literature will add depth to the evaluation process.

The foundation has also expressed sincere appreciation to Bibi Bakare-Yussuf, who is stepping down after six years of invaluable service as a judge. Her deep expertise and support have played a crucial role in the success of past selections.
