Since 2006, the Industrial Technology Research Institute (ITRI) has been offering international students hands-on research experience through its Global Internship Program. Every year, around 35 students join ITRI to work on cutting-edge projects in science, engineering, and technology.

The program offers two types of internships:

Summer internships (2-3 months) from May to September
Extended internships (4-6 months) available throughout the Spring, Summer, and Fall

This is an excellent opportunity to gain industry experience, develop research skills, and explore Taiwan’s innovation-driven environment.

Internship Opportunities for 2025

For those interested in the 2025 internship cycle, ITRI has already listed some openings on its internship application page. More positions will be added in early February, so keep checking for updates.

Who Can Apply?

To qualify for the ITRI internship, you must:

Be an enrolled student during and after the internship (proof required)
Hold a valid passport from a country other than Taiwan (ROC)
Be available for at least 10 weeks for summer internships (May–September)
Be open to longer internships (4-6 months) throughout the year

Internship dates are flexible and will be discussed during the selection process. Make sure to indicate your availability in your application.

What Does ITRI Provide?

Selected interns receive a generous benefits package, including:

Accommodation – Stay in modern dormitories on ITRI’s spacious campus, with access to dining and recreational facilities.
Monthly Stipend – Earn NT$24,000 to NT$40,000 (before taxes), depending on experience and department.
Insurance – Free ITRI Group Accident Insurance (Note: Full medical insurance must be purchased separately).

Final benefits may vary by department, and details will be confirmed in your internship offer.

Application Process & Deadlines

Rolling Applications – Positions remain open until filled. If an internship is still listed in the application system, you can apply!

No Fixed Deadline – For non-summer internships, apply at least 3-4 months in advance to allow time for visa processing and travel arrangements.

Other Important Information

The working language is English unless stated otherwise. If Mandarin is required, it will be mentioned in the job description.
Interns must cover their own travel expenses unless otherwise stated in their offer.
ITRI will assist in obtaining the necessary internship work permit, but interns must apply for an ROC visa from the nearest Taiwan Economic and Cultural Office before traveling.

For ROC Citizens: If you only hold Taiwanese citizenship, you are not eligible for this international program. However, ITRI offers local internships, which are managed separately by individual departments.

For Foreign Males of Taiwanese Descent (Ages 18-40): If you hold a foreign passport but have Taiwanese heritage, be mindful of Taiwan’s military conscription laws. To avoid issues, your stay should not exceed four months. Check with an ROC embassy or the Ministry of the Interior for details.
