Admin, September 11, 2025

Application Deadline: December 15, 2025

The Goethe-Institut is now accepting applications for the Mobility Grants Programme 2025, designed to strengthen cultural cooperation, knowledge exchange, and co-creation between African and European artists. This initiative offers financial support to enable cross-border collaboration, professional development, and cultural dialogue across disciplines.

Programme Overview

The Mobility Grants Programme is a flagship initiative aimed at fostering stronger Euro-African partnerships in the arts and culture sector. Its main goal is to improve intercultural cooperation through co-creation, exchange, dissemination, and capacity-building opportunities.

Special attention is given to young people, women, and persons with disabilities, ensuring inclusivity and accessibility for diverse groups of creators and cultural professionals.

Grant Details

The programme offers mobility grants of up to €4,000 per applicant (approximately $4,000), covering a wide range of eligible expenses such as:

  • Travel and visa costs
  • Health and travel insurance
  • Accommodation and daily subsistence
  • Digital connectivity needs
  • Top-up support for childcare, disability-related requirements, and eco-friendly travel options

In total, 195 grants will be awarded throughout the programme period. Applications are accepted on a rolling basis and evaluated quarterly.

Who Can Apply?

The Mobility Grants Programme is open to both African and European artists, cultural operators, and professionals who are:

  • At least 18 years old
  • Based in Sub-Saharan Africa or the European Union
  • Active in fields including visual arts, performing arts, literature, film, media arts, music, fashion design, cultural heritage, design, and architecture
  • Able to provide a clear project purpose and a confirmed invitation or partnership in the destination country

Both individuals and teams are eligible to apply, provided they meet all requirements.

Eligible Activities

The programme supports a wide range of activities, including:

  • Artistic research and co-creation projects
  • Professional development initiatives
  • Residencies and cultural exchange programmes
  • Exhibitions, performances, and collaborative projects
  • Hybrid or digital mobility formats that enhance global cooperation

This flexibility ensures that artists can pursue projects that align with their career goals and contribute to wider cultural impact.

Evaluation Criteria

Applications will be assessed on:

  • Artistic quality and innovation
  • Relevance and preparedness of the project
  • Long-term impact on careers and communities
  • Technical capacity and feasibility

Additionally, cross-cutting considerations such as gender balance, inclusion, geographic diversity, linguistic diversity, and balance across career stages will play a key role in the final selection process.

Application Process

All applications must be submitted in English via the official online platform. Required documents include:

  • Portfolio of recent work
  • CV or professional biography
  • Invitation or confirmation letter from host partner
  • Detailed project timeline and budget breakdown
  • Valid identity document

The final deadline for submissions is December 15, 2025, with results announced within ten weeks of each cut-off date.

Why This Matters

The Goethe-Institut Mobility Grants Programme not only provides funding but also creates platforms for African and European artists to collaborate, share knowledge, and strengthen creative networks. By prioritizing accessibility and inclusivity, the programme empowers underrepresented voices and supports sustainable cultural exchange across borders.
