In a major leap towards transforming Nigeria’s digital education landscape, the Federal Ministry of Education, led by Honourable Minister Dr. Maruf Olatunji Alausa, has partnered with Amazon Web Services (AWS) Academy to launch the Digital Skills Development Program. This groundbreaking initiative aims to equip Nigerian educators and students with high-demand digital skills in cloud computing, machine learning, and emerging technologies—bridging the gap between traditional academic learning and the dynamic needs of the global digital economy.

Driving Nigeria’s Vision for Future-Ready Education

This strategic partnership supports the Renewed Hope Agenda and the Nigeria Education Sector Renewal Initiative (NESRI), both of which emphasize inclusive, technology-driven education. According to Dr. Alausa, the initiative is not only timely but also transformative—offering participants a unique opportunity to become globally competitive in today’s digital world.

Scaling Digital Access Across Nigerian Institutions

After a successful pilot phase involving coordinators from 43 federal universities and polytechnics, the program is now expanding nationwide. All tertiary institutions in Nigeria—including federal, state, and private universities, polytechnics, and colleges of education—are invited to participate.

Each institution is encouraged to nominate a program coordinator who will oversee faculty onboarding and student registration. This structured approach ensures seamless implementation and sustained support throughout the training period.

100% Free Digital Skills Certification

One of the most attractive features of this initiative is the completely free certification for all participants. The Federal Ministry of Education will cover 50% of the costs, while AWS will sponsor the remaining 50%, removing all financial barriers to participation.

Participants will gain access to:

• Mentorship and support from AWS-certified professionals

Upon completion, learners will earn globally recognized AWS certifications—boosting their employability, entrepreneurial capacity, and ability to thrive in a digital economy.
