The Chatham House/Mo Ibrahim Foundation Academy Fellowship is a prestigious, fully funded program designed to support young African professionals. This 10-month fellowship offers a unique chance to develop leadership skills, conduct independent research, and engage with international experts—all while being hosted at Chatham House in London, UK.

This initiative, a collaboration between Chatham House and the Mo Ibrahim Foundation, helps early-to-mid-career professionals strengthen their expertise in international affairs, governance, and policy research.

What the Fellowship Offers

1. Fully Funded Experience in London

Fellows will be based full-time at Chatham House in London, with the option of hybrid work. The fellowship covers:
 Monthly stipend of £2,565 for living expenses (accommodation, utilities, food, and transport).
 Travel and relocation costs, including visa fees.
Health surcharge coverage (excluding dental, optical, and prescriptions).
Research expenses for fieldwork, outreach, events, and publications.

2. Leadership and Research Development

This program is designed to enhance leadership skills and international policy knowledge through:

  • Independent Research: Fellows work on a research project of their choice, aligned with Chatham House’s mission.
  • Thematic Sessions: Experts from Chatham House and beyond discuss critical global challenges with fellows.
  • Leadership Masterclasses: Workshops focus on key skills like crisis management, policy impact, and stakeholder engagement.
  • Personal Development Coaching: One-on-one coaching sessions help fellows set and achieve leadership goals.
  • Media Training: Fellows receive expert training in TV and radio interviews, with feedback to improve their communication skills.
  • Career Mentorship (Optional): Fellows are paired with mentors to gain career insights and guidance.

3. Exclusive Networking Opportunities

Fellows will connect with high-profile leaders across government, business, media, and civil society. Through informal discussions, they gain firsthand insights into leadership strategies and global policy trends.

Who Can Apply?

This opportunity is open to motivated professionals who meet the following criteria:

African Citizenship: Open to citizens of any African country, including dual nationals.
Education: Must have a completed BA degree or equivalent and research experience.
Career Background: Open to early or mid-career professionals from academia, NGOs, business, government, civil society, or media.
No Age Restrictions: Applicants of all ages are welcome.

Applicants must submit:
An updated CV/résumé.
Two referee names.
A research proposal based on the provided topic guidelines.

Selection Process

Stage 1: Applications are reviewed, and shortlisted candidates are invited for interviews.
Stage 2: Interviews are conducted via Zoom with senior Chatham House representatives. Selected fellows are notified via email.
