RINA, in collaboration with Zest, has announced a global innovation challenge designed to accelerate groundbreaking solutions in autonomous monitoring, inspection, and maintenance. This initiative is open to startups and SMEs worldwide, offering funding, expert guidance, and industry visibility to help transform ideas into scalable, market-ready technologies.

Driving Innovation in Complex Environments

The challenge aims to tackle some of the most pressing issues in industries that rely on monitoring and maintenance in complex or hazardous environments. These include offshore sites, energy plants, confined spaces, and remote areas where human supervision is costly, risky, or inefficient.

Technologies such as drones, robotics, IoT sensors, artificial intelligence (AI), and augmented reality (AR) are already reshaping how companies approach inspection and maintenance. However, limitations still exist in device autonomy, data integration, cybersecurity, and system scalability. This challenge seeks to accelerate innovation by inviting startups to deliver solutions that:

  • Improve operational autonomy and scalability.
  • Enable predictive maintenance and continuous monitoring.
  • Enhance operator safety by reducing human presence in dangerous environments.
  • Ensure seamless integration into digital workflows.

Devices may have limited autonomy, leaving systems vulnerable to malfunctions, cyber-attacks, and operational interference. Winners of the challenge will receive a €20,000 prize package, which includes:

  • €10,000 in direct financial support to advance their innovation journey.
  • €10,000 worth of expert consultancy services provided by RINA.

Beyond financial assistance, selected startups gain access to tailored mentorship and technical expertise. This guidance is critical in navigating market entry, compliance, scalability, and long-term sustainability.
