This program, hosted by a prominent African international affairs organization, seeks to engage and develop the next generation of young researchers from across the continent. This initiative accompanies the refreshed launch of a dedicated online platform—the Africa Youth Portal—which will serve as a central hub for policy-oriented research produced by young voices. The program structure includes an intensive, week-long in-person training workshop titled ‘From Academia to Policy Impact: Pathways for Emerging Researchers.’ This is supplemented by ongoing mentorship designed to foster both professional and personal growth. The workshop is scheduled to be held in Johannesburg, South Africa, from 20-25 April 2026 (dates to be confirmed). All related travel and accommodation expenses for selected participants will be covered. The goal is to prepare a cohort of 20 postgraduate researchers with the practical skills, methodologies, and professional connections needed to translate academic expertise into influential policy analysis. Participants will benefit from direct mentorship, specialized training, and the chance to feature their work on the Youth Portal. Core Training Modules Will Cover: Distinguishing policy research from academic writing. Crafting concise, persuasive policy briefs. Strategies for research dissemination and engaging with media. Utilizing AI and digital resources in research. Building a professional profile and planning career trajectories. Conducting research in key areas such as: Education, Climate Action, Gender Equity, Conflict Studies, and Youth Participation. Eligibility Criteria: Interested applicants must: Be between 18 and 35 years of age. Be actively pursuing or have recently obtained a postgraduate degree (Honours, Master’s, or PhD level). Have an academic background in fields such as: Political Science, International Relations, Journalism, Development Studies, Sociology, Law, Economics, or Strategic Foresight. Show a committed interest in policy-relevant research and youth advancement. Confirm availability for the entire training workshop and follow-up program activities.
