Apply Now for the AU Digital & Innovation Fellowship 2026

Admin, February 3, 2026February 3, 2026

Application Deadline: February , 2026

Applications are soon opening for the African Union (AU) Digital & Innovation Fellowship 2026 — a prestigious, year-long program designed to unleash Africa’s brightest minds in technology and digital innovation. This fellowship offers a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity for young African professionals to work within AU institutions, co-developing data-driven solutions that strengthen governance, enhance service delivery, and accelerate Africa’s digital future.

Launched in 2021, the program has already become a cornerstone of the AU Digital Transformation Strategy and Agenda 2063, Africa’s blueprint for inclusive growth and sustainable development. Through this initiative, young innovators don’t just gain exposure — they actively shape the future of how the AU uses technology to govern, connect, and empower.

In a time when digital systems are transforming economies and governance worldwide, this fellowship stands out as a powerful model for homegrown innovation. It gives African youth the tools, mentorship, and platform to transform institutions from within — proving that the solutions to Africa’s digital challenges can and should come from Africans themselves.

About the AU Digital & Innovation Fellowship

The AU Digital & Innovation Fellowship is a 12-month immersive program that places selected fellows within African Union departments and institutions. Each fellow collaborates directly with AU staff to co-design and implement technology-driven solutions addressing real institutional challenges.

Developed by the African Union Commission, implemented by enpact, and supported by GIZ’s DataCipation program (funded by the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development, BMZ), the fellowship aims to embed innovation, data-driven decision-making, and digital tools into AU operations.

For the 2026/2027 cohort, 12 fellows will be selected to join this transformative journey starting in April 2026. They will work at the intersection of technology, data, innovation, and governance, tackling challenges like improving data management systems, enhancing citizen engagement, and streamlining public sector operations.

Beyond technical innovation, the fellowship nurtures a new generation of leaders — those who can think strategically, collaborate across cultures, and translate digital ideas into impactful governance reforms.

Benefits of the AU Digital & Innovation Fellowship 2026

Selected fellows receive comprehensive support to thrive both personally and professionally throughout the fellowship year. Key benefits include:

  • Monthly Stipend: Receive €2,500 per month for the full 12 months.
  • Equipment & Learning Budgets: Access up to €800 for digital tools and €500 for personalized learning or training.
  • International Exposure: Participate in two bootcamps in Addis Ababa and a mid-term delegation trip to Germany, connecting with policymakers, innovators, and partners across Africa and Europe.
  • Immersive Institutional Experience: Work directly within AU institutions, co-developing solutions that strengthen governance and service delivery.
  • Professional Development: Engage in structured capacity-building programs focused on leadership, innovation, and data-driven decision-making.
  • Long-Term Impact: Fellows help institutionalize digital practices, ensuring their work continues to add value even after the program ends.

This is not just a fellowship — it’s a launchpad for Africa’s next generation of digital transformation leaders.
