The Africa Scholarship Programme (ASP) was established to empower Africa’s brightest minds through advanced education, capacity building, and innovation. About the Africa Scholarship Programme (ASP)

The ASP is a highly competitive scholarship initiative that supports academically talented African students with a demonstrated commitment to contributing to Africa’s development. Successful applicants receive full financial support to study for two years at Wageningen University, which consistently ranks among the top agricultural and environmental universities globally.

The programme goes beyond academic funding—it’s a platform for cultivating leadership, research innovation, and global collaboration. Scholars are encouraged to engage in projects that address pressing African and global challenges such as food security, climate change, biodiversity, and sustainable development.

Who Can Apply

The scholarship is open to citizens of African countries who have obtained a First Class Honours Bachelor’s degree (or equivalent, with a minimum GPA of 80%) and who meet the academic and language requirements of Wageningen University.

Eligible applicants must:

  • Hold citizenship of an African country.
  • Apply for an eligible Master’s programme at WUR before the stated deadline.
  • Obtain unconditional admission to their chosen MSc programme.
  • Demonstrate strong motivation and leadership potential to contribute to Africa’s growth and innovation after graduation.
  • Have not previously completed a Master’s degree.

Preference is given to candidates who combine academic excellence with a clear vision for how they will use their skills to make an impact in their home countries or regions.

All programmes are taught in English, and applicants must meet the university’s English language proficiency requirements.

Scholarship Benefits

Selected scholars will receive comprehensive financial support for the full duration of their two-year Master’s programme. The Africa Scholarship Programme covers:

Applicants who do not receive an invitation by 1 April 2026 will no longer be under consideration for the September 2026 intake.

Selection Process

The selection committee reviews all eligible applications based on academic excellence, leadership potential, and commitment to contributing to Africa’s development. Candidates who pass the academic screening are shortlisted for further consideration. A limited number of scholarships are awarded, and additional candidates may be placed on a reserve list.
