Leadership is not just about taking charge—it starts with self-awareness and personal growth before expanding to community and national impact.

To bridge this gap, LEAP Africa has introduced the Youth Leadership Development Programme (YLDP) 2025, an initiative designed to empower undergraduates in Nigerian tertiary institutions with the resources, skills, and knowledge needed to lead transformative projects in governance, policy advocacy, and community development.

Are You Ready to Be a Change-Maker?

Are you a Nigerian undergraduate passionate about governance, social change, and civic engagement? This is your chance to make a real impact! The Nigerian Youth Futures Fund (NYFF) Youth Leadership Development Programme 2025 is calling on young leaders ready to take action and be advocates for change.

The 2025 Cohort will focus on two key thematic areas, allowing participants to develop and implement projects that address pressing national issues:

1. Facilitating Good Governance

Nigeria’s governance structure thrives when citizens hold leaders accountable, participate actively in elections, and influence policy-making. If you have an idea that can improve governance at any level, YLDP 2025 offers a platform to bring it to life. You can focus on:

• Transparency & Accountability: How can you support your community in demanding accountability from public officials?
• Voter Education: With the 2027 elections approaching, how informed are your peers about their voting rights and the electoral process? Can your project boost voter awareness?
• National Policy Engagement: Are students in your institution aware of the National Youth Policy? What policy reforms can you advocate for?
• Social Media Advocacy: How can digital platforms amplify governance issues and include student voices in key policy decisions?

2. Resolving Fundamental National Issues

Social cohesion and inclusivity are critical for national development. This thematic area focuses on initiatives that promote peace, gender equality, and civic rights awareness. Consider these project ideas:

• Group Conflict Resolution & Peacebuilding: How can your initiative foster unity and resolve inter-tribal or communal conflicts?
• Gender & Social Inclusion: Can you advocate for more inclusive policies on your campus or in any other chosen community?
• Civic Rights Awareness: How can you educate your peers about their rights and provide aid to students facing injustice?

Who Can Apply?

To be eligible for the YLDP 2025, applicants must:

• Be between 18-35 years old
• Be enrolled as an undergraduate in a Nigerian tertiary institution
• Be available for the 5-month program and commit to at least 85% participation
• Have access to a mobile phone or personal computer with stable internet
• Show proof of studentship (such as a valid student ID or course form)
• Be willing to travel if necessary for program activities
• Complete the 10 compulsory virtual courses before progressing to specialized tracks
