This opportunity offers six African Wikipedians the chance to contribute to Wikimedia projects while receiving a monthly stipend of $300. About the CfA Wikipedian-in-Residence Fellowship The CfA WiR Fellowship is designed to amplify youth voices and enhance digital literacy by improving content on Wikipedia and Wikidata. Fellows will focus on key thematic areas, including: Cybersecurity and Personal Data Protection E-democracy and Digital Mobilisation in Social Movements Freedom of Expression and Human Rights Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 16: Peace, Justice, and Strong Institutions This initiative is a collaboration between Code for Africa, the European Partnership for Democracy (EPD), AfricTivistes, CFI Media Development, the World Scout Bureau Africa Regional Office, and the Kofi Annan Foundation (KAF), with contributions from the Netherlands Institute for Multiparty Democracy (NIMD). Through the African Wikipedian Alliance, the fellowship seeks to address content gaps on Wikimedia projects related to governance, democracy, and digital rights in the Sahel region, neighboring West Africa, and the Horn of Africa. Eligibility Criteria Applicants must: Be a registered Wikimedian with at least two years of editing experience and a member of an event organizer user group. Ideally reside in the Sahel region, West Africa, or the Horn of Africa (exceptional applicants from other parts of Africa may be considered). Be fluent in English or French (bilingual applicants have an advantage). Have a strong interest in digital rights and youth civic engagement. Possess experience in organizing edit-a-thons and other Wikimedia events. Be skilled in fact-checking Wikipedia content or be willing to learn. Have experience in community mobilization and digital literacy training. Be an active Wikipedia/Wikidata contributor with a verifiable portfolio. Have no history of blocks or sanctions on Wikimedia projects. Be able to track contributions and submit reports efficiently. Commit to participating in mentorship, training, and outreach activities. Adhere to Wikimedia’s policies on attribution, privacy, and friendly space guidelines.
