Empowering Creative Audio Storytelling The Podcast Pitch Initiative champions innovative approaches to factual storytelling, sound design, and audience engagement. It supports both emerging and experienced producers eager to develop original podcast content that reflects the diversity of human experiences. The initiative welcomes stories that are: Authored and personal, centering the voices of contributors. Emotionally compelling, surprising, or deeply insightful. Produced in English, with strong structure and audience awareness. Creative in the use of sound, music, and technology. Unlike The Whickers Film & TV Award, this opportunity is not limited to first-time creators. Both single-episode and episodic podcast proposals are eligible, opening the door to a wide range of factual audio storytelling styles. What the Winners Receive The top prize winner will receive a £15,000 production grant, while the runner-up will receive £5,000 to support project development. In addition to financial support, six finalists will benefit from a fully funded trip to the Sheffield Documentary Festival (June 2026), including: A free festival pass granting access to exclusive sessions and events. Three nights’ accommodation during the festival. A travel contribution of up to £400 per project. Opportunities to network with leading commissioners, producers, and decision-makers in the global audio industry. This experience allows finalists to showcase their work, gain international recognition, and receive valuable feedback from some of the most respected professionals in the field. Eligibility and Application Requirements Applications are open to audio producers from any country, provided that the podcast is produced in English. Funding may be awarded to a registered production company or directly to an individual producer. To be eligible, applicants must submit: Up to four minutes of original taster audio showcasing their storytelling concept. An attached executive producer committed to guiding the project’s production. Finalists will be invited to pitch their podcast projects in person during Sheffield DocFest 2026. The panel of judges will make the final decisions, and all applicants must be available to attend the live pitch session.
