Admin, May 30, 2025May 30, 2025

Application Deadline: June 10, 2025

The Enel Foundation, in collaboration with RES4Africa Foundation and Strathmore University, has officially launched the first edition of the wAtt-boost Youth Powered Start-Up in Africa. This initiative is designed to empower young African entrepreneurs and startups innovating in the renewable energy space.

Focused on accelerating sustainable development across the continent, the program offers both pre-acceleration and acceleration tracks tailored to startups at various growth stages. Selected participants will receive comprehensive training, mentorship, visibility, and access to funding opportunities.

Program Overview

The wAtt-boost initiative is strategically designed to foster innovation and enterprise development in Africa’s renewable energy ecosystem. Through a dual-track format, the program provides targeted support for both budding entrepreneurs and established startups.

Pre-Accelerator Program
This track targets early-stage entrepreneurs and startups. Participants will focus on refining their business ideas, creating a Minimum Viable Product (MVP), and exploring market entry strategies.

Accelerator Program
This track is tailored for more advanced startups seeking to scale. Participants will work on building robust teams, developing bankable products, strengthening business models, and expanding their networks and customer base.

Thematic Focus Areas

wAtt-boost supports startups addressing a range of challenges in the energy and sustainability sectors. Key thematic areas include:

  • Artificial Intelligence (AI): Smart grid management, AI-driven predictive maintenance, and optimization of renewable energy systems.
  • Grids and Infrastructure: Solutions for efficient, resilient energy grids and infrastructure to enhance energy access in underserved communities.
  • Climate Adaptation and Mitigation: Technologies that support climate resilience, carbon capture, and emissions reduction.
  • Clean Cooking: Innovations promoting affordable, sustainable alternatives to biomass for cooking, such as efficient cookstoves.
  • Electric Mobility: Development of EV solutions, infrastructure for charging, and sustainable transport models suited for African markets.
  • Agrivoltaics: Integration of agriculture and solar power to boost land efficiency, improve food security, and advance clean energy access.

Training Modules

Selected participants will undergo two comprehensive training modules:

  1. NewGen Renewable Energy Accelerator – Delivered by IRENA with support from Enel Foundation between June and July 2025.
