Applications Open for the WE Empower UN SDG Challenge 2026 – A Global Platform for Women Entrepreneurs Driving Sustainable Change

Admin, February 5, 2026February 5, 2026

Application Deadline: March 8, 2026

Applications are now open for the WE Empower UN SDG Challenge 2026, a landmark global initiative celebrating and supporting women entrepreneurs who are driving meaningful progress toward the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

Launched in 2018 by global leaders including the UN Secretary-General, the President of the World Bank, and the Council of Women World Leaders, this challenge is more than a competition — it’s a powerful movement amplifying women-led enterprises transforming their communities and industries.

In an era where women continue to shape economic and social innovation, the WE Empower Challenge stands out as one of the few global platforms that recognizes, resources, and connects women business leaders creating sustainable impact.

For African women entrepreneurs — from Kenya to Nigeria to South Africa — this opportunity offers not just visibility but a seat at the global table where policies, partnerships, and funding conversations are happening.

About the WE Empower UN SDG Challenge 2026

The WE Empower UN SDG Challenge honors visionary women leaders advancing the UN’s 2030 Agenda through innovative, socially responsible business models. By spotlighting women entrepreneurs across five regions — Asia-Pacific, Europe & North America, Latin America & the Caribbean, Middle East & North Africa, and Sub-Saharan Africa — the program celebrates diversity and the unique ways women drive progress toward sustainability, equity, and inclusion.

In 2026, five regional awardees will be selected to participate in Climate Week NYC and events at the 81st United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) from September 19–26, 2026. During this high-profile week, they will engage with global leaders, policymakers, and investors, representing the very best of female entrepreneurship on the world stage.

The initiative is supported by Vital Voices and other key partners committed to empowering women to shape a more equitable and sustainable global economy.

Benefits of the WE Empower UN SDG Challenge 2026

Awardees will enjoy an immersive, life-changing experience in New York City, designed to build leadership capacity, expand global networks, and elevate their ventures for long-term growth.

Here’s what selected participants will receive:

  • Fully funded participation in events surrounding Climate Week NYC and the 81st UN General Assembly (travel, accommodation, and meals covered).
  • Access to world-class workshops focused on business strategy, leadership, and impact scaling.
  • Tailored mentorship and training from global industry experts and policy leaders.
  • Networking opportunities with top executives, investors, philanthropists, and UN officials.
  • A chance to pitch their enterprise at a high-profile event hosted by fashion icon and Vital Voices Board Member Diane von Furstenberg in New York.

Tips for a Strong Application

The WE Empower Challenge attracts thousands of high-caliber women entrepreneurs worldwide. To stand out, here are some insider tips:

  1. Align Clearly with the SDGs:
Articulate how your business addresses specific SDGs — for example, SDG 5 (Gender Equality), SDG 8 (Decent Work and Economic Growth), or SDG 13 (Climate Action).
  2. Demonstrate Measurable Impact:
Use data or success stories to show tangible outcomes — such as number of women employed, communities reached, or carbon reduced.
  3. Highlight Leadership and Innovation:
The challenge seeks women who lead boldly and bring creative solutions to systemic problems. Showcase how your leadership has transformed your organization.
  4. Showcase Gender Empowerment:
Explain how your enterprise uplifts women or promotes equity — through employment, mentorship, or community outreach.
  5. Perfect Your Video Pitch:
Keep your two-minute video clear, passionate, and authentic. Let your personality and mission shine — that’s often what sets finalists apart.
  6. Apply Early:
Don’t wait until the deadline. Submitting early gives you time to refine your materials and avoid last-minute technical issues.

Why African Women Entrepreneurs Should Apply

African women are at the forefront of innovation — leading businesses that tackle everything from clean energy to digital finance and sustainable agriculture. Yet, access to global funding and visibility remains limited.

The WE Empower UN SDG Challenge 2026 bridges that gap by connecting African women leaders to international partners, investors, and policymakers who can amplify their impact. It’s a rare opportunity to represent Africa’s entrepreneurial excellence on a world stage that values inclusion and sustainability.

If you’re a woman entrepreneur working to solve real problems through business, this challenge is your chance to elevate your vision and gain the global recognition your work deserves.

Conclusion

The WE Empower UN SDG Challenge 2026 is not just about celebrating women entrepreneurs — it’s about investing in the changemakers who are shaping a more equitable and sustainable world.

If you’re ready to take your impact global, don’t wait. Apply before March 8, 2026, and step into a network of women leaders transforming communities, economies, and futures worldwide
