Applications are Now Open for the GYBN USA Biodiversity Diplomacy Program 2026

Admin, February 4, 2026February 4, 2026

Application Deadline: February 15, 2026

Are you passionate about biodiversity, climate action, and diplomacy? Do you want to play an active role in shaping environmental policy and advocacy at local, national, and global levels?

Applications are now open for the GYBN USA Biodiversity Diplomacy Program 2026 Cohort, a transformative opportunity for young leaders committed to driving real change in biodiversity conservation and environmental policy.

As climate and biodiversity crises deepen across the globe, youth leadership has become more critical than ever. The Global Youth Biodiversity Network (GYBN) USA chapter is empowering young advocates aged 18–35 to step into spaces of influence — bridging the gap between policy and grassroots action. This is your chance to become part of a vibrant international network of changemakers, activists, and sustainability leaders.

The deadline for applications is February 15, 2026 — and those interested in leadership roles are encouraged to apply as soon as possible.

About the GYBN USA Biodiversity Diplomacy Program

The Global Youth Biodiversity Network (GYBN) is a youth constituency recognized under the Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD) — one of the world’s most significant environmental treaties. Its mission is to mobilize and empower youth around the world to advocate for the protection and sustainable use of biodiversity.

Through its U.S. chapter, GYBN USA, the Biodiversity Diplomacy Program creates a structured platform where young leaders engage in policy advocacy, public education, and diplomatic engagement. Participants contribute to biodiversity policy development while building their leadership, communication, and collaboration skills.

Each cohort runs for a full year, with a manageable time commitment of 3–4 hours per month, combining advocacy, education, outreach, and training activities. Participants meet quarterly for training workshops and bi-monthly progress check-ins, ensuring continuous learning and collaboration throughout the program.

The program’s activities include:

  • Advocacy & Diplomacy: Supporting biodiversity education and engagement aligned with the CBD and related environmental frameworks.
  • Community Outreach: Leading awareness campaigns, campus events, and educational initiatives to engage students and the public.
  • Collaboration & Communication: Working alongside environmental leaders, NGOs, and institutions to co-create sustainable solutions.

Benefits of Joining the 2026 Cohort

Becoming part of the GYBN USA Biodiversity Diplomacy Program offers far more than training — it’s a pathway to impact, influence, and leadership.

Selected participants will:

  • Gain hands-on advocacy and leadership experience in biodiversity and environmental diplomacy.
  • Join a national network of passionate youth leaders driving environmental change.
  • Receive quarterly training sessions in diplomacy, biodiversity policy, and community engagement.
  • Access professional development opportunities, including mentorship and networking with experts in conservation and sustainability.
  • Explore career pathways in policy, advocacy, environmental governance, and international development.
  • Potentially participate in local, national, and international biodiversity and climate events.

Whether you aspire to work in environmental policy, lead a sustainability initiative, or represent your community in climate diplomacy, this program provides the exposure and network to grow your influence.

Who Can Apply?

The program is open to:

  • Students and young professionals aged 18–35 based in the United States.
  • Individuals passionate about biodiversity, conservation, diplomacy, and environmental education.
  • Applicants with backgrounds in sustainability, ecology, public policy, communication, or related fields are especially encouraged to apply.
  • Both emerging advocates (new to biodiversity work) and experienced youth leaders are welcome — what matters most is your commitment to learning and leading.

Tips for a Strong Application

Here are a few tips to help your application stand out:

  1. Show your genuine interest. Write clearly about why biodiversity diplomacy matters to you and how you plan to contribute.
  2. Highlight experience — or motivation. If you lack formal experience, focus on what drives your interest in environmental action.
  3. Be specific about impact. Mention any community projects, university clubs, or local initiatives you’ve been part of.
  4. Demonstrate commitment. The program values consistency — note how you’ll make time for monthly participation.
  5. Apply early. Leadership positions are competitive and reviewed on a rolling basis.

This program isn’t just a learning opportunity — it’s a platform for youth voices to shape real biodiversity outcomes. If you’ve ever wanted to influence environmental decision-making, this is your moment.

Why You Should Apply
